Interview
Sn00p: Alright, I'm here with AOB newcomer Sharp Nine. What's up?
Sharp Nine: nothing much, you?
Well, I'm writing the mag and it's 3 AM in the morning, but I won't be
able to sleep to 'til 5 AM, 'cause I fuck up my sleeping patterns during
the holidays like that. Anyways, back to you: When did you start
doing txt? And how? And why? And was it really on NC that you started?
lol props for being the model of dedication. I guess I've been doing text
for around 5 months now, my first battle ever was in NC's last newbie
tourney. I'm in college and last semester I had some free time, thought
it was fun and it stuck. And yeah, those were my first ever battles.
months is not a lot of time, but you've come a long way since then. I'm
not really sure I remember your 1st verses, but I think they were decent,
but not overly decent. lol
How did you manage to get better so fast? Any tips for the other people
on the come up?
lol I remember being proud of having a handle on concepts and wordplay
back then but my wording was choppy at best. I think what helped me
a lot was reading actual battles before trying to do it, and I voted on
any lower-tier battles in the BA which really helped me get a sense of what
I found effective and weak in verses. I guess those new guys should really
read around, and vote on battles and whatnot - it really does help you in
the long run. That and do leagues. NBL shaped me up quick, felt like I did
the most growing there
I agree with that. In the end, you'll have to jump in the cold water and join
the league. You can't elevate any faster than you do there. It was the
same for me.
The whole reading 1st part brings me to another question: Why so humble?
I mean that's certainly a good trait and I for one like to keep things polite,
but the attitude is rather rare among people as competitive as text battlers.
Do you think that kind of approach has helped you get better?
Definitely, at the end of the day you're not doing yourself any favors if you
only focus on the positive and dont acknowledge all of the other guys who
do it better. Plus when you work out your flaws its oh so satisfying. There's
nothing wrong with being proud of your work at any stage, but especially
early on I feel a lot more proud at how much my work's improved.
That is the kind of attitude a lot more people should adopt to be honest.
But let's talk about the league. Do you like how it looks right now? Anything
I could improve?
I really like the way its going, compared to week one I'd say its come a long
way. Major props for all that and staying open to suggestions. I think you're
doing everything you can, people are always gonna no show or not vote. If I
had to suggest anything Id say look out for positive incentives for showing
and voting like the mags, which are dope af, cause positive incentive >
negative incentive
That is definitely true. Unfortunately, it's way easier to punish people. But I
try to give y'all good mags if you give me good verses and votes.
Speaking of good verses, who's your opponent this week and how do you see
your chances?
I got Flo Real, and we're already open for votes so I think I'll just let the verses
speak for themselves
Oh word. lol. Didn't realize it was your battle that was open already. Well, who
do you want to battle in the future then? And who do you think is the best
competition in the league right now?
I cant think of anyone in particular actually lol, I'm looking forward to competing
with a lot of these guys. as far as best in the league, Hollywood, AK, and Dominate
are obvious choices, I feel like Defiant's also one of those guys to beat who doesn't
get enough credit
Alright. That's it I think. Any last comments from you or shoutouts?
Shoutout to Witty for the closest and best battle I've been in, hands down. Also
to everyone who shows, this site has mad talent when it's active.
now go the fuck to sleep lol
Haha, yeah. I actually CAN'T sleep before 5 AM, though. But thanks for the interview,
especially since it was on such short notice! Pz.
anytime, cya bud
