I was driving in the left lane, all of a sudden my sound system dies. Ok. Monsoons are temperamental. Airbag light comes on. Now I'm curious. All of a sudden my car kicks into limp mode, no turbo, and I'm losing RPMs... but the tach is stuck at 3K and my speedometer at 80, all my gauges are frozen.

throw on my blinkers, move into the breakdown lane (at this point I'm going 40, gauges still stuck)

So I check the engine bay. All good. Make sure the battery terminals are secure. Yep. My car still has battery power but the starter isn't going, let alone catching

Who knows. Could be a fuel problem, it was running really rich at start up. This is the first time its hit limp mode since before I cleaned my IAC
What are you loling at? You understand the basic concept of how an alternator works, obviously. Your alternator could not directly "fry" your ECU. That's why I was confused with the slash.

Anyway, it likely sounds as if the alt is your problem. ECU only goes into limp if it's an issue related to something else. A fried ECU would kill your car immediately, not go into limp mode. The alt no longer charging your battery or letting the starter turn over is a pretty likely diagnosis.
