Default new "polar vortex" slated next tuesday through end of the month

http://nation.time.com/2014/01/17/th...#ixzz2qfF87TyJ

Based on weather models, Junker is predicting that the polar vortex–a swath of bitterly cold, dense air–will move well south of its normal position and blast the northeast with more frigid temperatures. Throughout much of the country, he’s predicting temperatures 20 to 30 degrees below average.

notice the bold, hmm, wonder where the "normal position" is actually located lol

ice extent remained below average in most of the far north

oh yeah here's a bonus for @Split Eight

In Antarctica, ice extent remained above average

so what I do believe is going on here is that we're in the ever present stages of a pole shift, with the cold moving more south of the current northern position, I'm willing to bet that someday sometime soon or later, North America will be home to the North Pole. I also think the birds dying off are a direct result of the changes in the magnetic field that affect there migration. I've seen flocks of birds flying in circles lately here in the Midwest, like they don't know where to go. Other people are reporting this as well. Just one example.
