On all plays, RG3 was been hit 104 times (second only to Cam Newton).
What do the Redskins have to lose on benching RG3 Arguably, nothing. What do they have to gain? Potentially, a lot.
If Kirk Cousins comes out and plays good football, we've got a quarterback competition on our hands. Nothing about RG's play this season suggests that this job should just be given to him (injury or not). Also, even though Kirk will be with the team next year, him getting on the field and playing well will drive up his trade value.
This could pan out to be the best thing for the Redskins given the current state of the franchise:
Light a fire under RG3's smart, supremely talented ass by making it known in the offseason that his job is not safe. And potentially make Kirk Cousins worth an early round draft pick.
