To answer your question about the two brains problem; you'd be dead, most likely. What constitutes "you" is essentially that - the combination of an insurmountable number of microscopic and macroscopic components.

In other words, the self is a completed puzzle. Ergo, an incomplete puzzle cannot be the self.

You seem to be confused, isolating consciousness as distinct from the body. This is not the case. The body came first, not consciousness.
