It's one thing to say music from the past still sounds great now. But it wouldn't be a hit now. There's this girl group, Haim, that basically jacked the sound of (good) 1980s pop rock. But Haim isn't make a splash the same way those groups did, not because the music is worse but because it's not what the mainstream wants at the moment. So music critics and a lot of music fans really like Haim, but they're not getting noticed on the large stage.
