Honestly, it depends on the sport to me.

If it's a sport I don't care much about, I'll root for whoever I feel like at the time even if its not the home team. Or even if my team typically sucks (like the Blue Jays every year), I don't root for the other divisional teams but I don't have a distaste for them that I would if we were in competition.

If it's football...I may like an opposing team a bit (I actually like the Carolina team this year), but I fiend off of every hard hit that Cam Newton takes...every injury their D line gets....every pass they can't complete. It makes my team stronger.

And if it's the Falcons, Oh gawd....I'm going to a Bills vs. Falcons game up here just to put on my Saints Jersey and boo that god awful disgrace of a team.

So again, it's situational.
