To me the difference is that 90% of Open Mic verses are rambling and all over the place. Some writers do that spectacularly, like Darth Yoda. Other writers, like myself, just don't have much to say about themselves. Yes, you can tell a story just for the Open Mic section, but does anyone really?

I've seen a lot of great Open Mic writers struggle in topical battles, and the reverse is even more true.
