I'm reslistening to 'Stan' on repeat for a nostalgia trip and can't believe this was a hit. You don't hear something like this anymore. He captures his own self and the zeitgeist of the time and his own self awareness so perfectly. I was a rap obsessed white kid back in the day. I heart'ed OutKast, and respected them more than anything justvtrying to be cool. And they're still my go to rap. But Eminem was a gateway, arguably the strongest mainstream lyricist in his prime. And he captured everything about his paradigm in a half third person song and made it a fucking chart topper/
