I hated Asher Roth when he first came out. Hate that College song. A lot of his shit is just hand crafted free flow shit, though. He has intricate schemes and talks about, again, things that your typical rapper doesn't. Which is probably why I like him. He's a lyricist, that isn't typical.
Another thing about Macklemore is he's good at making songs. Creating an atmosphere. That track about shoes. The chorus. The way he builds momentum through a song. He's good at playing on emotions, which is a sometimes lost talent for rappers.
For whoever said he was preachy... 2 Pac was preachy.
