Wow, yea - exactly why I was curious, because normally they suspect pneumonia by listening to the lungs I believe, and do an x-ray thereafter.
The left arm is typically impacted by heart conditions for men, sometimes both arms (in women mostly I believe, for whatever reason), but the right arm pain alone is actually a good sign and hopefully it was just your dad laying on it wrong.
Did they call it "walking pneumonia", do you know?
