If you want to be serious, invest in some monitors rather than mixing with your cans. I'd recommend either ProTools (if recording) or Ableton Live (if sampling). An audio interface is essential, and if you're recording, having a decent mic will greatly improve your sound. Try and set up your studio in the largest room of your house, otherwise your critical frequency is gonna be waaaay too high, which leads to a lot of problems with resonances and so on.

I mean, how serious do you wanna be about it?
