Wax

Anyone up on this dude? He's been Youtube famous for a while. Made that Liquid Courage album in '08. His music has gotten a lot more personal, but still has a positive vibe amidst a lot of negative topics. Good Hip Hop, if anyone is interested.

It's funny how there's this whole deep-underground genre determined to draw in every rap nerd. I'm not talking about Def Jux, who have more broad appeal than this. Everything about this, from the beats to the rhymes to the delivery, was built just for the types of guys who write rap lyrics and post them to Internet message boards and take this shit way too seriously.

So yeah, I liked it.

I asked a more tapped-in friend about Wax, and he pointed me to this great song:

Look for the acoustic version of Larry and Tina. That was the first time I heard Wax, and the song structure, obvious musical talent, story telling and lyrics made me an instant fan. Personally, I think the beat on the album track fucks up the vibe the acoustic version had.

I hate to think of music designed to appeal to a specific genre. I know it happens, but Wax comes off more as one of those rap nerds who just happens to make music that breathes his personality. Which is what I wish all Hip Hop was. Download his album, Continue. For me, it's a musically talented lyricist who isn't trying to be something, but isn't trying hard to be any sort of counter culture, either.

I actually posted this with you in mind, after I read your depressing shit in the OM lol Glad you made your way to it.

Certain 08-10-2013 05:28 PM

@dullboy, good call on the acoustic version. I liked the original a lot, but I really love this, more than any of the other stuff. Hell, @PancakeBrah might even dig it.

Wax manages to touch on mopey subjects and hook those emotional types without coming off as overly sappy or forced. He kind of reminds me of Eyedea.

This wasn't the acoustic I was talking about, but it's still better than the album cut.
