Yeah. The best beat on Illmatic was Pete Rock's "The World Is Yours."

debatable, but that was def the standout track. Memory Lane is my personal favorite song from the album though.

I'd say the standout track is "It Ain't Hard to Tell" because the lyricism is just otherworldly there. That's my favorite rap track of all time.

I mean, we're talking about the greatest hip hop album of all time, hard to distinguish which tracks were better than others. But to me, The World is Yours is most emblematic of Illmatic. It Ain't Hard to Tell is in the upper crust no doubt. It has some of the best bars on the album as well.

I'm a Memory Lane/One Love kinda guy at this point in life, but my favorite track of Illmatic has switched around a good bit since I first heard it.

Represent was my favorite instrumental on that album.

"New York State of Mind" has a special place in my heart because it's been my alarm ring tone for almost a decade.

oats 10-01-2014 04:08 AM

yeah that's my vote for best beat of Illmatic, classic song. @Certain you listen to either Prince album?
