The Middle Finger of the Family (Oatmeal/NYC)

Oats
They said I should've played ball with such genetic expression
I say I became tall to try and get some attention
Middle child of 5, the silent type, nightshifts at 7-11
The person everyone would notice but, never would mention
The elephant in the settlement - ignore him. Don't talk, stare!
walk around without acknowledgment, it's just like he's not there!
I begged for the crosshairs, craved its allegiance
As long as I'm in someone's sight then they can take it or leave it
Faceless debris, mom and dad's six foot eight little secret
Standing tall...in the shadow of my brothers' latest achievements
Steve's a Yalie, a genius, CIA bound
Will's the starting running back at USC, set to break out
Mark's at Johns Hopkins, Scott is gonna take the same route
Me? I'll gladly take 5 bucks to leave your driveway plowed
Left home with my face down, the prodigal scar
Of the family, cuz "av-erage is not what we are"
That's what they told me as I walked away, unlocking the car
Sent off with a salute of fumed exhaust in the yard
I never got very far from what I tried to escape
No amount of gas could drive enough miles away

....THE FABRIC OF SPACE TIME WARPS, CREATING A SIMILAR, BUT ALTERNATE UNIVERSE:

NYC
Fuck an AND1 I fight through fouls and slam dunk
West Fourth New York courts - these boys'll MAN up
Tanned up, metropolis pimp killin swan songs
Dimes swarm to my bronze dong hit it twice and I'm long gone
Blood lineage? Fuckin homogenous human grass blades
Rum diligence - flippin birds up til my last day
Let suburbian sloth silhouettes simmer in fantasy
Emaciated wraith: ASSIMILATE - mental pillars of battery
Father please forgi...siiike, I'm fierce ballin for leisure
Handles sick, jump-shot slick, the "Taller Professor"
Though one egregious elitist defeatist...STILL paves the way
His temper's mine til I cross-over and fade away.
Blood red. White/blue, such an amazing grace...
Color me fucked. Torn up by several shades of grey
Haze and yay, pills pushin the pain away
Devil worship sex sacrifice - the layman prays
Corporate cocksuck coupon vacation - it's plain as day
They see azure skies, toes ensconced, sands beige in play
Escaped the family fist, sitting here drinking miller in my can
My soul rose - revealing the middle finger of the fam

Nice collabo fellers. oats coming with the standard fluid flows. and really good at getting ur message across. painting a picture. really sick verse. not much else to say. its also dope to see u dropping alot instead of once a month, stay at it

NYC havent seen in a bit dude. got some vocab up this muhfugga eh? blood lineage and rum diligence was tight as F!

u 2 worked well together on this, the idea was pretty original and you pulled off the rhyming nicely. oats gets an extra point for smoothnesss. nyc on some harder shit

peep my new one if u get a chance

This collaboration was an accurate examples of two personalities clashing in the creative arena. You've got oatmeal, an instrospective English teacher with a sense of organized calm about him, a refined imagination based in realism. Then you've got NYC who is a banshee, who also has considerable skill with them barz. He "levels up" from the suburban every-day man in oats' character to the literal version of himself, only with more basketball credentials.

Hmm... so yeah, I thought this was a versatile collabo.

Keep doing you

This had the slowly simmering texture of a quaker making his morning meal. The granulated gleam of brown sugar, a dab of salted butter, a splash of whole milk. The energy from these components in the first verse gives the reader enough energy to make his morning cup of colombian coffee mixed with dark roast, a gourmet specialty he ground himself. Taking out the business section of the New York Times to view stock options, the reader is then transported to lunch at rucker park where a wide variety of deft nimble head and shoulder fakes leads the competition away from the paint as the home team's long range shooter is left WIDE OPEN at the line. Smfh, now the crowd's going crazy, it's up to him, the ball is lost in the sun's cold uncaring rays and falls with gathering Vince Carter force toward the rim and as a child drops him popcorn his mother grabs her hair in anguish, face contorted and crying. Another jumps for joy and one of the teams is led to victory, but which?

This fell below my expectations considering the talent of the two writers. No hate, just lacked something for me. Oats is someone I look forward to reading but his verse fell flat. He was given the less interesting role in the collabo, but still. NYC has dropped better.

Ayo nyc
When gonna go back n forth on a collab joint?

Word, I agree wholeheartedly. Sometimes on a fast break you end up just laying it up nah mean. Appreciate the honesty.
