Lack of emotion in writing

What are some solutions?

change the subject to one which emotionally moves you

Vulgar 07-15-2014 10:30 AM

My writing is a part of who I am. I might be too emotionless. I must evolve with the times. I'll use the feedback here and apply it to myself, not necessarily to my writing.

dont force yourself to write

dont move the pen bruh

let the pen move you

know everything you write is an expression of yourself

& so it is also an extension of yourself

People don't get my writing. that is my niche. that hits me in the feels.

Lol @ 1

I cried in the bathroom today 'cause my cat ran away.
My dog died on a log ride. I'm getting a lap dance. Dismayed.

So emotional.

Emotional writing is mostly bullshit, when it's good. It's tapping into real emotions and then giving them a hint of mystery and wit so it's interesting. Real 'emotional' writing is done when you're being honest with yourself about things that other people can relate to... and lots of other angles.

To echo dull boy, I think the key to incorporating emotional content in writing is to be unflinchingly honest. When you do that, emotions naturally surface, as opposed to the contrivance of trying to find an emotion to include.

I recently saw this as a comment on an article, and I liked it:

My favorite exercise is to write a short story about someone who has just recently lost their closest family member. Never mention the death. This results in a powerful undercurrent of emotion that is the hallmark of all great literature, and most certainly something similar (a manifestation of unresolved conflicts) is what you and your readers are picking up in your own writing. It is there because you are a good writer.
