where do you place scottie pippen on your all time list?

you don't have to be specific, just like "top [something]"

you put him as, a top ten player, ever?

namix 06-12-2013 08:23 AM

It really is a great question. I was a die-hard cavs fan growing up in the times of an 'awesome team' who could never get by MJ's bulls.

during this times, pippen always seemed like just a tertiary player to MJ. I was surprised when he made it into the hall of fame --- but i guess i 'get it' too.

MJ is such an x-factor though --- Pippen may have not even been a household name at this point without MJ, who was constantly, and i mean CONSTANTLY doubled, AND skilled at making everyone around him better.... Pippen benefited immensely from this in terms of stats AND championships....

It's clear how MJ helped him BUT, it's worth considering how his presence hurt Pippen in terms of "what Pippen really contributed as an NBA player itself". I do not think Pippen would have been 'enough' to build a team around on his own -- but it is almost hard to say because of the MJ factor.

As such - all time list is kinda hard for me -- but i'd put him as "THE #1 of the #2 PLAYERS EVER"! He is probably the best of the second class/supporting cast players, again, supporting the best player ever (only maybe rivaled 10 or so years from now when LBJ hangs it up...)

...the Nagger 06-12-2013 08:25 AM

^so you place him where lol?

Rawn M.D. 06-12-2013 08:45 AM

lol what i got from that, and i agree (with wwhat i think namix was conveying)

hes prolly top 10 assist/supporting player
maybe top 50 all around
@namix

...the Nagger 06-12-2013 08:48 AM

ok

how about this

would you say chauncey billlups had a better career than pippen?

Rawn M.D. 06-12-2013 08:51 AM

hmmm... i unno... different time periods... diff teams... billups prolly was better all around...but with the team Pippen had, what he had to offer, made him more an asset imo.

...the Nagger 06-12-2013 08:57 AM

so you'd put pippen > billups?

Rawn M.D. 06-12-2013 09:01 AM

id put billups over pippen as an individual player
but pippen over billups as a team asset

God Of War 06-12-2013 11:12 AM

i dont think pippen is top 25 and he maybe would make my top 50

Swerve 06-12-2013 11:32 AM

Top 20, maybe top 25 of all time.

I'd argue top 10 in his era of bball easily. People seem to forget the monster he was in the 2 years without Jordan and how good his overall game was that he adapted to serving the team.

Uncle Drew 06-12-2013 11:34 AM

Top 25.

Note: In today's game he could shut down & highly contend w/ LeBron.

...the Nagger 06-12-2013 11:34 AM

I think its blashpemy to say chauncey is better than him lol

idk

he's def in my top 20

Rawn M.D. 06-12-2013 11:36 AM

i just see Pippen as more a 'team' player then an 'individual' player...thats all..and there is NOTHING wrong with that in TEAM sports.
