Psychoanalyze: why do you Netcee?

and yes, I just used NC as a verb. But why do you come here? Surely boredom/free time is a part of the equation, but there are plenty of things to kill boredom with (sleeping, other sites, porn, etc). So what is it about NC specifically that appeals to you?

I'll say for me, I work two jobs that demand a lot of social engagement from me, so I like the pseudo socializing that goes on here. I can ignore who/what I want to ignore, and address who/what I want to address, and I always have the option to just drop a conversation.

As a followup question to think about, do your real life friends know about this hobby?

super pimp trillionaire 06-11-2013 01:15 PM

same and yes. I like to see if my analogue friends will visit and guess correctly who I am.

its fun most of the time, when I don't think its fun anymore I bounce...

I feel you, I guess it changed for me since I rarely compete anymore. But that was def the appeal of it when I did. Keep ducking me, GOW.

Orc 06-11-2013 02:07 PM

idk why

Joe Metts 06-11-2013 02:19 PM

Its like watching boy meets world or saved by the bell. Something i did as a kid and its still around. So i keep it in rotation.

Arch. 06-11-2013 02:23 PM

Because I keep retiring then getting emails to join tourneys

I have no life, my parents beat me daily and I post online to escape the soul crushing depression of my miserable existence.

tell me something we don't already know.

what's up, @Arch. ? good to see you're still kicking around

~RustyGunZ~ 06-11-2013 03:02 PM

because I used to produce then got into text battling when I was younger

obviously then it was to compete and do cool urban writing

now it's just for free time, most people I know spend more time on FB than I do here haha it's a cool thing to check on at work when it's slow, at home when I'm just chillin out or even if I'm with people at slow points I'll check up

if I hadn't done it when I was younger I'd have no interest, but since it's a community I know that post more interesting things than 99% of my friends I go here instead of sliding through nonsense on FB for hours

and yeah my close friends know about it and have for a long time

Do your real life friends know about this hobby?

1. I'm sporadic in what I do. While I'm also on Netcees I sometimes play games, talk to friends on facebook, other forums as well, while I'm writing netcees is usually up in the background, and when I'm listening to music which I do A LOT. I'm not that into partying (only a couple times a month) and I don't mind staying at home every now and then. I like to take it chill, but not too chill while giving enough time to focus on my writing. I got several ideas for where writing will take me and getting better at it is among the reasons to why I'm here.

What appeals to me about Netcees is the honest culture though. If someone doesn't like something, well, you're going to hear it wether you like it or not. Fuck what you think kinda shit, I like that. I like the freedom that I also can say what I want to others as long as it holds ground, and that's the kinda shit I can only do among my closest friends. Others will take it as an insult and I'll end up thinking they're knucks and bitches so I try to limit my criticism irl.

2. A select few knows. I write a lot and I like to get criticism from people that's not into writing as well to learn more about what they focus on, and what kinda shit they notice as opposed to people that know what to look for. I got 2-3 friends that I send my shit to sometimes for these kinds of reviews.

dead man 06-11-2013 04:09 PM

part teenage nostalgia and a place that (more or less) thrives on the creative nature of others is a good energy. also there are some hilarious motherfuckers on hip-hop forums, so entertainment value factors in for sure..

i think many people walk a thin line between habit and addiction round these parts
