Selling beats?

So, I'm thinking of selling beats for a small price but I wonder where the market of clients would be at? Like, is there any site of hungry MCs and recording artists out there that are actually willing to pay money for beats?

Do you have any experience with that site? Can I just put a beat up there and is it possible for multiple people to buy it? Sorry for the questions, I'm curious but I should look into it myself.

Thank you for the compliment haha, I just thought why not do it yo

Do you still post at that site I showed you? All them cats sell beats, they get major placements. They can show you what you need to know. Plus yes leasing is the way, and you can lease to multiple if the terms are clear. Problem is non exclusive leasing makes it less attractive, so, less money, but of course, the possibility of multiple sales. Consider a short fuse on the lease that when blown, returns all rights to you if certain conditions are nut met. Most common is recording. But you can go for publication, or a certain amount of exposure. Etc ... I'd suggest you go exclusive recording rights, split mechanical rights lease with all rights returned if you don't see publishing activity in six months. Just an idea. Inbox.

you sample based? its rough to have any real type of income from internet rappers honestly. when i was starting out i did the 20 dollar beat thing. spamming my garbage beats trying to sell them, its rough.

the best bet nowadays is music licensing. hip hop beats are used in everything, so thinking of working with artists directly is kind of dated if you ain't working TOGETHER on something you want to work on. the last few beats i sold were to a skateboarding company for the "ride channel" on youtube. they contacted me tho, out of the blue. for a few years there i released free beat tapes, just like 15-17 track "albums" which people seemed to dig and post around the internet on different blogs and etc

there are sites where you can submit your music into a database for tv shows and all that too, the only problem is they don't accept sampled stuff because of legal issues. vh1 doesnt want to get sued by columbia records because 5 seconds of hip hop wives or some show like that happened to have a sample in there background music that wasnt cleared

as long as you hide the sample good enough you should be fine tho but its always a risk

but word the only way i really know how to do it is the way i do/did it.

make dope shit. put it out for free. this lets people actually become familiar with you, and distinguishes you from the millions of dudes who try to nickle and dime there beats, and also, people are gonna use them for free. its gonna happen. if its dope and someone is broke and of low moral fortitude they are gonna use it anyways. but if someone is semi serious, they WILL contact you about purchasing it, even when they can download it for free.

so just make sure you got a contact address with your shit. your email or whatever. be prepared for alot of "hey man im an aspiring rapper from arkansas or belize" type emails tho from terrible people
