Does text not get formulaic to you guys at all?

(almost) everyone rocking the same tried and tested style

list punches, stop/start punches, hyperboles where you can basically substitute certain words in the sentence and come up with a new line etc

i dunno man

i was a textcee once and even then text battles got real boring real quick for me

they're only really fun when you get two people with history or a board character about them to clown on

probably why picture battles are so popular, but even they been done to death by now

not that i care in the slightest, i rarely read anything you wack faggots attempt to pass off as text battles these days lmao

no troll, genuine thread

IamBenT 05-17-2013 09:34 AM

well the problem is, that same tried and true boring ass shit is whats considered "Good".

And who doesn't want to be "good", right?

If other styles and forms just get voted and booed and critiqued to hell, pretty much your going to get the same cookie-cutter shit from everyone.

I never wrote battle raps like you see them around here. But I also caught a bunch of losses in battles where I KNOW i came more creative and more original than my opponent.

But text battles are a subjective thing, and if everyone voting thinks one way is better than any other way, guess what? You lose.

Just saying, I think you are one of the better battlers on here tbt. its probably just you have seen so much of it by now its old hat.

back when i was boarding heavy in 99-02, nobody was writing text like they do today. things change

Of all the sites I been to, this site is notorious for lynching anything that's not setup punch short bar. Anything else and your trash. Which is why the top 10 here can't easily be identified in alias battles. Fucking sheep.

Orc 05-17-2013 11:32 AM

i agree with Pryde

god extension 05-17-2013 11:56 AM

shit got boring for me in like 03. but sometimes it's not just boredom, sometimes real life happens for a good while and when you get back, shit just isn't the same.

john hensley 05-17-2013 01:31 PM

it got super formulaic for me from about 2008 or 2009 and on

Chyeahhh!!! 05-17-2013 01:46 PM

didn't even need to read the rest. I think taking off a few years, coming back and leaving again only to repeat the process helps. You don't know whats what and are forced to just do you. Thats where the trendsetting starts.

Witty 05-17-2013 03:21 PM

It's because your old ass has been on every hip hop forum ever created in the history of the internet.

But I sort of agree. Although I still see dope lines, they are less of an occurance than back in like 05...there are still some dope textcees though, I won't name any names because I'm not here to cater to egos...but they're out there.

GKillaZ 05-17-2013 03:33 PM

I agree about having background on your opponent or even knowing them is key!
...some of the simplest lines hit the hardest if its personal and fits them well. LIVE anyways ... same line you would post on here would get to love, but LIVE 100's of people are laughing historically

namix 05-17-2013 06:11 PM

the inability for most to innovate, coupled with the instinct to be accepted, makes the evolution of almost everything painfully slow

kids focus too much time trying to avoid coming off wack to come into something truly original and dope.

if kids spent less time tryna keep up with the jones', one day they just might wake up to find the jones' tryna keep up with them.

Explain how a face to face text battle works.

I'm intrigued

StarFaggot 05-17-2013 08:46 PM

Jayson Fresh was pretty original
