Supreme Court removes limits on campaign contributions.
|
the things people get riled over. Whenever it comes to money you can be sure people are gonna get mad.
What about the millionaire who's not gonna go to prison for raping a 5 year old because, "he wouldn't fair well in there"? Human injusticies are overshadowed with thread titles that say, "do you think college atheletes should be paid"? This is the world we live in...not for much longer though |
Lol chyeah stupid 24/7 can't turn it off won't turn it off
|
I think the citizens united ruling will be seen as one of the most egregious court decisions I the history of America. It's just horrendous politics.

Excuse me for my ignorance but I thought this happened a while ago?
Isn't that how they can have super pacts and shit? |
"Money in politics may at times seem repugnant to some, but so too does much of what the First Amendment vigorously protects. If the First Amendment protects flag burning, funeral protests, and Nazi parades-despite the profound offense such spectacles cause-it surely protects political campaign speech despite popular opposition."
- CJ Roberts i can't even.. i just.. wow. fucking. wow. |
these are supposed to be the arbiters of justice, the moral compass of our country, and they literally can not tell the difference between speaking and money.
|
Money talks.
Lol I made a funny. Answer my question tho, I want to learn. |
@Witty in 2010 the Supreme Court passed a decision in the the Citizens United vs. Federal Elections Commission case that removed limits on campaign contributions from corporations and unions.
This article talked about the recent decision to remove limits on contributing to a an individual politician or political party for individuals, not corporations or unions...yet. So if I'm a hedge fund manager and don't want to pay taxes, I have my hedge fund give millions to a campaign and I can personally give millions to individual politicians, and suggest to the people I helped get elected to not tax the super wealthy. But of course, this will not oblige or persuade them to push my agendas at all. |

Yeah, that is definitely fucked up. And kinda scary tbh. |
it's absurd. on LOTS of issues, our federal laws do not even closely reflect what the majority of Americans want, and it's because of shit like this, because politicians are bought. and it's not a question of conspiracy theory, all the money flowing from corporations and millionaires/billionaires is on public record because it's legal.
