Breathless at breakfast, a lump in my throat
a blunt that i smoked reminds me of something i wrote.
I remember the feeling without words, nothing but hope,
But as soon as i awoke i realized i was becoming a joke.
My dreams are surreal and vivid beyond imagination,
Of being successful and capturing every aspiration.
"It's all just an aberration; face it David,
You'll always be underrated in the eyes of the sated!
Meaningless accomplishments, you know that you're fated,
To fail when it matters until you too are jaded!"
Yet I've never fallen, never quit, i keep thriving,
Never stalling, taken hits, but still surviving.
I'm a man of my word that demands to be heard,
Plagued by insanity that only agony cured.
As i brace for my fantasy to finally take place,
I'm again disappointed; I cry with a straight face.
Giving away my pride and freedom, I was willing and able;
So the day I lost my voice,
was the day i signed with a label.
