here's the biggest piece of advise regarding cold weather. Layering is your friend. There is no such thing as being too hot or too cold, but there is a such thing as being properly or improperly dressed. The mindset of respecting mother nature imo is as follows, you're either in compliance with it or out of compliance with it, there is no such thing as beating mother nature. . If you're in compliance with mother nature, you're gonna survive it, if you're out of compliance with mother nature, well you get the point. My respect for mother nature is as simple as this, don't mess with mother nature, for thou art small and biodegradable.

make sure they're breathable, able to vent or expel core temps in active scenarios. Mine consists of a highly breathable and water repelling outer shell. Mid is either a fleece or tech shell (it's kind of non traditional for a tech shell under a hard shell but I like it, freedom of movement is better but you get the friction of fabrics. If you're going covert, the wishy washy sound may not be suitable) My insulator is a synthetic down vest. Base layer is something that is close fitting, coolmax or some other wicking material. Smartwool is good but I don't like the texture personally. One in particular that I recommend but hard to find is an adventure tech Propper base layer. No cotton, x static silver lining, stretch nylon and coolmax, shits the bomb.

Some other things I recommend are balaclava and a synthetic over hat. Nylon gloves with thinsulate and liners, outdoor research makes some top of the line cold weather gloves but I've gotten away with some mechanix cold weather and wool liners. The only thing I haven't covered is feet and legs but that'll come later

oh yeah, this information is useful for being outside for long periods of time. lol I don't walk around with this shit on going to work and all that. Comes in handy for cold weather camping though, and my hikes in the snow are long.

yo believe it or not I rock a pair of nylon church socks for a baselayer lol, helps with the friction , works everytime. Over the baselayer I'll either do a and thick wool, a mid wool, or a hiker sock. I keep some moleskins handy if I want the luxury of comfort on a long haul I'll throw some dr scholls soles in the mix. Wigwam or Smartwool hiker fusions are good socks. Foot warmers are good too for deep snow.

I've got some Mountain Safety Research snow shoes/spikes, haven't tried those out yet. I've got 3 pairs of Timberland Valley Forge 8 boots that somehow I don't know why these aren't the cream of the crop in boots. You can't find a boot that has thinsulate and goretex! One of the most thought out boots I've come across.

legs are easy. I wear polartec silk weight long baselayer with either a 5.11 taclite that's 40/60 cotton polyester or a full thick pair of 100% cotton 5.11's under Patagonia's level 6 outer hard shell pants in goretex. If I'm wading through snow I'll do some knee high gators and a pair of LL bean full zip thinsulate insulated pants. These don't breathe but they're hella warm and with the full zips I can strip em off with the quickness. Always have to factor in sizing when layering out so those LL Beans are in like a XXL, this goes for layering in general though, gotta account for bulk
