a meme is basically like an internet trend

ex: rage comics are a meme - they started at 4chan and blew up all over the internet.. a meme within that meme would be the "son, I am disappoint" meme.

however meme's don't even have to be an image or video "do you even lift" is a meme started at bodybuilding forums.. the jobs/hope/cash joke is what you could call a twitter meme
