Doesn't that just mean that they found a star similar to the sun with planets orbiting?

I don't think it means it's a companion star to the sun, if that is what you are implying, just one that is similar mass and therefore its planets could well support life.

Maybe I'm wrong, didn't read in detail.

Oh no, it's saying they found evidence planets can form in star clusters.
