strong choices fellas, only out-rivaled by a chocolate stout to chase a pint of jack.

barely even joking, because if i'm a pint in, i'm not going to stop until i sleep and wont sleep until it's out lol

Witty 01-07-2014 10:09 AM

Dark chocolate stout?

What is that?

Stout that tastes like chocolate?

I like stout to taste like stout.

Ghost1 01-07-2014 10:16 AM

What is a common stout beer i may have had?

Dunno if i drank stout b4......

Witty 01-07-2014 10:22 AM

Guinness.

Ghost1 01-07-2014 10:24 AM

I feel kinda silly now

Have you tried the single barrel?

Premium labels often aren't worth the bang-for-buck to me, and with a big 'ol 1.75 of reg jack for about the same $, i always let quantity beat quality.... but I had it over the holiday, and it was great.

This may sound overly poetic, but it's the best way I can describe it: it was like it took that hallmark spice/kick JD fans love, and brought it to life for the first time. Seriously was like a crisp/freshly opened can of coke vs. a flat cup of day-old coke.

If you're just tryna get it in then it might be a waste, but I thought it was a nice change of pace if you also enjoy the taste

PancakeBrah 01-07-2014 10:32 AM

I've never had it. I've had some expensive whiskey before (Blue Label). You can definitely notice the difference. Like you said, though, a pint of regular Jack for under $20 is an efficient way to get sufficiently ignorant.

lol... it's easy to overlook though, guinness is far and away the most popular (i assume at least) -- after that the name brands start dropping off for most.... you may have had murphy's? i think it's in a greenish can / 4 pack typically.

Ghost1 01-07-2014 10:43 AM

That single barrel jack is da truf.... my buzz seemed different even....like a crispy high....lol that definition makes perfect sense to me.

An ive not had murphys....seen it tho

I think i will buy sum stout tonite.....what kind should i get.....not guiness...

Witty 01-07-2014 10:45 AM

Fuck you...not Guinness...fuck you.

namix 01-07-2014 10:55 AM

Word @Witty - I think the name chocolate stout makes it sound like something more than it is though... like they're about to corrupt a good stout by adding a bunch of hershey's syrup or some shit.

stouts are my favorite beer because, i wish i could think of a better way to say this, but i love its 'body' lol

I'd prefer a normal stout vs. others if i had to choose one for the rest of my life, but as much of a lover of guiness as i am, other stouts help to break out that kinda 'monotonous' flavor you can fall into at times with regular stouts

they're normally pretty subtle, almost more aroma than taste imo... and though it's probably the most blasphemous version to a strictly-stout drinker, I'm a big fan of milk stouts for that pinch of sweetness they provide to a beer which is typically pretty bitter (though i like the bitterness too).

hailing from guinnessland though, you may not like any deviation from the norm tbh; but in general, most people that like regular stouts would probably dig a chocolate one now and again.

so let me preface this with, as i think about where we are in this thread, i am nooo expert here and probably left college with a shitty pallet lol

my only credentials are that im irish, played rugby, then went into business schmoozing mode... so word i drank a lot of times of a lot kinds.

but yea, i think Murphy's is really solid... from there, it's about your taste a bit - but if you like a 'thick' beer, you probably won't go wrong with any stout you get

oatmeel stouts are solid... milk stouts are a little bit sweeter (again, to me at least)... chocolate stouts are like a bolder flavored version of a traditional stout i'd say....

the best input i could prolly give is:
- dont go cheep on it
- get a solid 4-pack stout in a cans
- and don't drink it out of the cans, lol

get your pour on

i got hammered at the Old Bushmill's distillery though then almost fell to my death amidst vicious winds when i was trailing unguarded mountain paths (i think they were hills tbh, like big ones) on the coastline. i'm not irish. fuck with it.

also not a drug addict. sry OP/
