Would strict rules kill the Writers league?

Do you feel that strict rules such as the following examples would deter attendance / overall user base of the writers league in particular?

Not suggesting any of these should be implemented, just curious as to peoples opinions on the hardass approach

-No extension requests unless you posted within the regulation time the week previous.
-Two consecutive no shows and you are ineligible for the following week.

Add your own brainstormed rule or discuss your feeling towards them

the second one seems reasonable

the first one is stupid. the reason extensions exist is to deal with unforeseen circumstances. people abuse the privilege sure but nobody knows a week in advance if their gonna need an extension or not..

Agreed. I think @Sn00p uses the second one in the AOBL right now.

Yeah, second one makes sense.

I'm even stricter with it, though. If you noshow, you're signed out automatically, unless you had a good reason to noshow and told me and your opponent beforehand.

I like that second rule & I will definitely consider it. Those who no show are automatically sign out of next week & have to sign in, plus no shows effect the ranking & playoff seeding/chances, & I'm keeping record of it. But a one week suspension sounds good after two no shows.

i agree with black, second one doesnt really seem extreme to me ; first one seems crazy, bro its life and sht happens, but i think that those who exploit ext's should have stricter rules to grants...i unno besides ppl making the ext date the reg due date (smh @ me asking for an ext this week; i rarely do though) i dont really see a need for additional rules, with the exception of the rule u stated, which i believe I've seen implemented in actuality.

Perhaps there should be more diverse topics. Why not have one week where the topic is 20 separate words for each contest page, and the two users on that page need to use those words in any topic? Or why not a list of controversial topics or current events? These are only thought stimulators not actual suggestions but some more diverse topics would be nice. Feel like I'm repeating myself but each week from NWL and AOB is either a) Picture b) Quote. Although last weeks surrealist pictures were a good change, and you could see from the different types of things people wrote (CDM's analysis, pofhig/genocide contest etc) it encouraged/challenged people.

second one is cool, should work good. but the first is crazy, in my opinion extensions are meant to give the opponent or both parties more time to post their verses, prevent any possible no-show or give them more time & time to finish their verses. you can't really know what's gonna happen the next day thats why certain persons ask for extensions at the last minute, i don't agree with this except second rule.

word

A lot of leagues have had themed weeks throughout the season just to avoid repetition like you say.
