GoW's point here warranted it's own thread.

This post isn't about out debating why 'text will not die', because I've heard, and at times believed, that debate for over a decade....

Writing will die on the same day the last of our kind does (if then). As long as there are thoughts, there'll be a will to convey them - and as long as there is a will to convey them, there will be a way.

What this post IS about is some facts... reasons for even the pessimist to see why this site has all the potential to be the realest one text-life-to-date.

(1) The Past
- - -+ -+- -+-+- -+-+-+-+ -+-+-+-+-+-+- -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- -+-+-+-+-+-+- +-+-+-+- -+-+- -+- +- - -

It happens....
Many of us have seen text sites come and go. When a site crashes -- sometimes heads move to new sites, sometimes the sites bounce back, sometimes they are never the same.

Rapworld crashed in '02 - and it never came back to form... which is why i went to bboys in the first place, and why i started battling on other sites at the same time. Bboys crashed in '03, and came back stronger than ever -- then after a crash in like '05, heads moved to projectrhyme, and some of the newer heads went to bragginwrites.... later, creating the rise of netcees...

The rise of Netcees....
The strong community on Netcees was formed because of it's greatest strength, and ultimately, it's greatest weakness, Allah / David Llama.

Through his years in text before running his own site - he became a 'text history' savant, and put hella time into two things --- the leagues, and more uniquely at the time, the ARCHIVES FROM ALL SITES.

It really was a smarter move than some people recognize, but by consolidating the "HALL OF NAMES" - with drops from legends from any and all sites, he established the foundation for attracting talent from across the net, and his leagues would keep those heads there.

now let's unwrap the present.

(2) The Present
- - -+ -+- -+-+- -+-+-+-+ -+-+-+-+-+-+- -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- -+-+-+-+-+-+- +-+-+-+- -+-+- -+- +- - -

The rebuilding process always sucks no matter where, how, or when it takes place --- BUT:

1. I have never seen a quicker rebound than I have here.

2. Normally it takes months to get another board even remotely active - that happened within days here (clearly not as active as netcees yet -- but that takes time).

3. Even more rare is the fact that there are already TWO LEAGUES, a topical and a battle league...
- within 1 month, that is fucking unheard of. AND there is some talent in them.
- The topical league is already chock full of talent.
- the battle league has some keynote heads with skill, a handful of heads are even making me consider signing up, and I've typically stuck to topicals and pink slips for the past several years lol.

4. There are already Tournaments, and creative ones at that.
- again, in one damn month, insane.
- Sn00p is doing an amazing job with that Ultimate Writers tourney, it's off to a strong start
- a lot of other shit popping too - not to mention Trap actually making CYPHER'S relevant... Voting on that weekly cypher actually gives it some meaning - and the format as a whole is a great idea and really well executed.

breaking down the breakdown so even the ADD kids can see the future.

(3) THE FUTURE
- - -+ -+- -+-+- -+-+-+-+ -+-+-+-+-+-+- -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- -+-+-+-+-+-+- +-+-+-+- -+-+- -+- +- - -

The team GoW has in place is going to be what differentiates this from many other sites.

The ideas in the MOD forum are awesome - more creative than I've seen in a hot minute. It was those discussions which are leading to our creative execution of the Cypher format, the Ultimate Writers tournament, and both the experience and desire to make THIS SITE better, AND it's MEMBERS, the best on the net.

We are collaborating and executing --- we are establishing a basis for a long-lasting site, down to effing "Rules of Engagement" regarding the process for "banning" people (so counterproductive members are banned quickly -- but so there is a check/balance in place to ensure mods/admins don't go rogue).

This is where netcees failed!
There are few more involved and motivated admins out there than David llama --- but it started and ended with him. Mods had little authority, there were no real admins --- and the mods that did have some power abused it from time to time.

ALL TIME SUMMARY
- - -+ -+- -+-+- -+-+-+-+ -+-+-+-+-+-+- -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- -+-+-+-+-+-+- +-+-+-+- -+-+- -+- +- - -
- We've learned from the past. Taking what works, leaving what didn't.
- We're executing in the present. Working fast too. The leadership team is strong as fuck. Smart and motivated. From Sn00p managing tournaments and leagues, to Trap on his Archive rampage, to GoW getting it done across the board - and getting the right people in place to manage the boards. All the way down to me being inspired to help for the first time in years....

- We're planning for the future. Both the foundation, the leverage model of authority, and the creative shit that breathes new life into creative writing

A lot of great shit to come - and a lot of good shit already here. If there wasn't, I wouldn't be.

Those are the facts - the pessimists can take it or leave it.... but we'll keep being the realest.

Ya. So basically, you fucks can be anything in this world that you want -except for our downfall!

Good points made tbh

Things change, they don't die. The world is different than it was 10 years ago, so it's only natural to expect most of the things in it to change. People have been writing and will continue to write. The culture is what everyone is talking about changing/dying. Someone said texting is World of Warcraft for rhymers, and it is. Whether you take it seriously or you don't, it's a form of roleplaying and entertaining fantasy. Most musicians don't sing, or rap with their actual voices. It's acting. The culture of texting has realized this and a lot of people aren't able to maintain the same level of intensity with the idea of them rolling 20 sided dice and pretending to be whatever topic they're writing on this week, or whatever persona they've created for themselves lol Lots of nuances to this thing, and it's fun to talk about.

God Of War 02-21-2013 02:23 PM

dope post nam

Sn00p 02-21-2013 04:37 PM

Goddammit, @namix. This actually made me all motivated again. Very good points.

PancakeBrah 02-21-2013 09:42 PM

I didn't read anything namix wrote. I think he's a hack and someone who would make me laugh out loud in real life if he talked like he thought. Amateur hour.
