"95'96 Wars" Mobb Deep vs Dogg Pound "95'96 Wars"

haven't seen this matchup, thought about it on the way home from work. You've got an ill lyricist and a beast on the production on either side. Lets not even get into relevance as of late but rather lets see the tail of the tape during the golden era and contributions:

you've got the Dogg Pound that consists of Kurupt, a skilled wordsmith who's lyrical prowness has been paired with the likes of and Crooked I and the DOC on the Westcoast in his hay days. Shit, when Canibus, Killah Priest, and Ras Kass wanna form a super group with you, you gotta be on point with that ballpoint yah heard! A brilliant freestyler and a unorthodox wittyness when it comes to word selection and flow. Then you've got Daz, who arguably influenced Tupac's flow during the height of the Death Row machine, who's smooth g funk production has graced everyone from the likes of Snoop Dogg to Gwen Stefani. Dude has the gangsta tip down on the boards, I'd say that the only dude in that era to mirror his contributions would be DJ Quik imo, not to disregard Dr. Dre, but Dre is a monster on his own. This westcoast group has a staple in the game no matter what coast you're on.

then you've got Mobb Deep that consists of Prodigy, who was in my top 10 from like 95-pre Jumbotron. Lets not forget how this dude's imagery laced raps and downright bluntness on the mic blessed speakers for a minute. Dude's flow is also unorthodox, non compromising and unforgiving. He's held down the fort when it came to the back in forths with Keith Murray, Jay-Z, and Tupac. Then you've got Havoc, who's influenced DJ Muggs and Alchemist on that production tip. Dudes strings, piano riffs, and scratch sample selections send chills to say the less. "Eerie" comes to mind when you think of this dude's production. This dude could make a soundtrack to some Halloween movies and shit. Legendary group

now begs the question, who's better?

I know about that. I'm talking about in the long run. Not talking about beef. Production vs Production, Kurupt vs Prodigy, group vs group, contributions, etc. legacy vs legacy

Mike Wrecka 11-14-2013 10:02 PM

well its pretty obvious to me but im from NY

Mobb Deep has classic joint after classic joint and tha Dogg Pound doesn't have a single song I would listen to

Y'all need to look up daz credentials tbh ... He's done more then havoc in the production game he produced a good chunk of all eyez on me and the whole dogg food album which is a classic ... Daz raps better then havoc as well ... Cali iz active is also a very underrated album by the dogg pound

I'd say Mobb had two classic albums, the infamous and hell on earth ...

Prodigy had the first hnic which was cool but after that a lot of their material went south

Kurupt first 3 solos albums were real food as we'll space odyssey is seen by many as a classic

Rawn MD 11-14-2013 10:59 PM

Oh I agree @Frank Metts

its a personal preference really

kurrupt b dope solo to me, same w daz

but dogg pound to mobb deep as group effort

Pre gunit/free agents/blood money Mobb deep was super dope then it went downhill and i haven't really care about them since tbh

Prodigy is too raw so I pick them.

But kurupt and daz are them dudes.

Havoc is a bum on the mic but always fucked wiyh his production.

Rawn MD 11-14-2013 11:57 PM

agreed @ both metts bros

uh-oh 11-15-2013 06:52 AM

mobb deep all day

not even a discussion to me. havoc is one of the most underrated beat dudes of all time. he stood out when ny had some of the illest dudes doin it. he's still raw too

uh-oh 11-15-2013 06:57 AM

I'm gonna have to look into daz tho see what all he made. cuz all eyes on me is a classic but when I think west coast its dre and quik.

Rawn MD 11-15-2013 07:19 AM
