that deaf dumb and blind boy

SURE PLAYS A MEAN PINBALLLLLLLLLLLL

PancakeBrah 10-10-2013 09:55 PM

tommy n stuff.

overrated album

i've always viewed the who as the shoehorned addition of the big four.

Certain 10-10-2013 10:05 PM

At least they wrote most of their own songs instead of stealing from 1960s blues bands.

PancakeBrah 10-10-2013 10:07 PM

That's an expansive argument that would need its own topic, Certain. I have many thoughts on Led Zeppelin and their obvious boggarting. I should write a dissertation on it and post it in Discussion. It would touch on many facets of life in general.

Certain 10-10-2013 10:15 PM

"When The Levee Breaks" is one of my 10 favorite songs ever, but that doesn't make it any less stolen.

PancakeBrah 10-10-2013 10:24 PM

Yes.

'When the Levee Breaks' is unparalleled. Are you really trying to discredit?

Are you a democrat?

Certain 10-10-2013 10:25 PM

I'm just saying, they could have been a little better about crediting people, at least. It would have saved them money in the long run, too.

But yeah, for the first three albums, Led Zeppelin was basically a wildly ambitious, remarkably talented cover band.

Certain 10-10-2013 10:26 PM

Also, top 10 song ever:

Behind Blue Eyes and Baba O'Reilly are truly great.

Cover band is a bit of hyperbole. And yes, I know they stole melodies and lines nearly wholesale. But it's still hyperbole. When I am sober I would like to debate this topic with you.

Certain 10-10-2013 10:39 PM

God of War would've banned Led Zeppelin after "Dazed and Confused."

PancakeBrah 10-10-2013 10:39 PM

since when has anything in music not been stolen? tru, they stole entire melodies with lyrics to match... but Led Zep made it because they had sick performances and put out good versions of other peoples shitty songs.

The bands they stole from wouldve been 1 hit wonders at best, on a lucky day

survival of the fittest IMO. but those bands should def sue and get the $$$$ they can

I only really take issue with Led Zeppelin's blues raiding in the context of calling The Who inferior. The Who were not inferior, and if anything, they were superior because they were so original, doing far fewer covers and cribbed songs than the Rolling Stones or The Beatles, much less Led Zeppelin.

Nobody really sounded like The Who until bands started imitating them.

Split 10-11-2013 06:08 PM

If The Who had stolen music they would be better than Led Zeppelin, if that helps you understand my opinion
