Putin is one shrewd motherfucker. His foreign strategy counsel have to be patting themselves on the back right now. Not only has he shifted the potential U.S military action to a more diplomatic solution, he's turned himself from the guy that everybody hated to the guy that people are now questioning his motives regarding foreign policy (hey it's a start). It's a brilliant chess move, and I could list all of the reasons as to why his proposal and the wording in this article have multiple benefits for putting Russia back into a powerhouse on foreign policy influence but I'm too lazy right now lol.

his response on Obama's use of "American exceptionalism" in his address was pretty good I thought.

Obama's playing golf, Putin is playing chess. I agree with Chyeeah, def a shrewd move to go straight to the American public as a foreign leader (unprecedented as far as my knowledge).

Didn't see this as "going in" on Obama. In fact, the assertion that the opposition gassed themselves is pretty bold, and not in a good way. If I were him, I wouldn't have mentioned that part, puts a tint on the letter that was otherwise spot on. As the leader of a security council nation, I think he should have appealed more to the international law that the use of chemical weapons is strictly forbidden, and taken a stronger stance on that.

either way, I think this only helps Russia's agenda, and it was a good move on his part.
