as someone who directly and singularly isn't going to be affected, it's still... a little worrying. I have a lot of people I love that may be affected.

that said, I also respect the democratic process (whatever methods or not were used to persuade any voters - which is... a political game anyways and just dumb on both sides).

the best I can hope for is that the candidate will take "bettering America" with sincerity - although I know that phrase means different things to different people.

if some of leftish fears come to pass (relations with Russia, "ending" democracy, etc.), I'm interested to see what will become of the support system Trump has.

if they don't, I'll be relieved - and also less worried in the future.

the current, primary upside I see is that he's a felon - odd to say, I guess... but hopefully we'll be able to utilize that to help other felons land jobs + gain trust back in society. yes, I know they can't all be trusted but :shrug: Trump's gonna make or break it for them LOL.

whatever it is, I don't take my opinion from news sources, podcasts, tiktoks, etc. - I assess stuff from the source and figure out how I feel.

with acknowledgement to "things can be faked", I try to be discerning as well - i.e., when the first assassination attempt happened, I would have been uncertain (until Trump posted about it) but I also happened to be watching his event and saw it first hand (online, so as first hand as that is).

likewise, I'm not gonna just listen to whoever and whatever people have to say about him (because most of it IS the vibe of "ahhh he's a devil" which is pointless in my opinion), but I do get to just... watch him say things himself or post things himself that form my opinion of him.

I'm a green voter generally, which I know amounts to pretty much nothing - and I don't personally know much of Harris' other than she's not been in the news for various things. perhaps Trump's news stuff is trumped up (haha) - is he really a felon? did he really do XYZ? or this or that? :shrug:

but unfortunately for him (not in the sense of winning the presidency, just in the context of this conversation) I already had a low opinion of the value he'd bring to my country. I did NOT have a low opinion of Harris, albeit that was because I hadn't bothered to form one beyond a simple bit of research.

I'm happy to have a sensible conversation around this, bc I'm able to articulate easily - I don't hold tightly to my beliefs that aren't formed by my own senses, either, so I would cherish a conversation where someone tried to flip my vote (not that it matters now, but even in the future).

In all seriousness, I'm really happy he won. This vote proves that the democratic party is absolutely delusional at this point. Kamala picking Tim Walz, somebody nobody knows, that brings nothing to the table was the final nail in the coffin.

And Trump won despite a COMPLETE left wing media blackout, minus the first assassination attempt. They didn't cover his speeches, rallies, only his court cases. And people saw what was going on.

Kamala could have picked Gavin Newsome and would have done much better, I still think they lose because his state is the biggest joke in the union right now. Between poor forestry management, opioid epidemic, homelessness....it's still a losing ticket. Maybe somebody like Governor Whitmer (another woman) from the battleground state of Michigan, or even somebody like Pete Buttigieg.

The only reason mainstream america though this election was going to be close, was because left controlled media was saying so. Bill Maher has been severely critical of the stagnation in the former "normal" democratic party....and now their future gets tougher from here.
