"Fight or Flight" a Poem

Locked, paralyzed between

A cosmic tug of war,

Light and Dark,

or grey.

Good and Bad are the same presently.

Expectations weigh like,

Secret thoughts expressed casually.

And have similar consequences of a loose tongue.

Who defines the unbeaten path?

Who denies the oncoming wrath?

It’s as if I want to explore,

wondering what might be…

If I only had the courage to trod

past the edge of the firelight.

Still connected to my pride,

and though another alpha male is threatening,

and our battle is imminent,

I stay.

Not refusing defeat, but not accepting his challenge.

Who defines the unbeaten path?

Who denies the oncoming wrath?

It’s as if I want to explore,

locked, paralyzed between a

cosmic tug of war.

Wondering what might be,

light and dark,

or grey-

If I only had the courage to trod,

good and bad are the same presently.

Past the edge of the firelight,

expectations weight like

secret thoughts expressed casually.

I’m still connected to my pride,

and it has similar consequences of a loose tongue.

Another alpha male is threatening,

and our battle is imminent.

Who defines the unbeaten path?

Who denies the oncoming wrath?

I stay.

Not refusing defeat,

nor accepting the challenge.

I deny the beaten path.

I define the oncoming wrath.
