baffling medical mysteries ( not really its all a conspiracy right chyyeeeahhh )

Over 1 billion different people get a cold a year ( lets say 1/6 of the population for maths sake ) on avg 3-4 times a year ( more if your a child ) almost 10 billion colds a years

This is by far the number 1 reason people go to the doctor and miss work and school yet for something a simple as a common cold virus their is no cure, their are otc meds that may calm some symptoms and even home remedies that help ease some pain but. . Nothing a doc can prescribe you nor much you can do but let it run its course... their is no antibotic that that helps ( even though some docs will say try this etc etc )

Is it really that hard for a team of people to put their over educated brains together and find something that will prevent this or is this one of those " colds aren't necessarily life threatening in a healthy individual and its job security for our doctors " type of sickness or is a virus this common and simple that baffling? If people still got colds they'd still need the doctor and some fat cat pharmaceutical company could make trillions ... the cold would still be common it would just make quality of life better if instead of feeling like hell for a week or two maybe you'd feel it for a day or three

I'm just so puzzled they push out vaccine after vaccine for Shit and constantly update the strands of flu that prevention shot eliminates ... yet the cold is like a Stevie wonder trying to solve a rubix cube to them

And yes I have a cold and since I've been 16 this has been one of those things that have always confused me to an extent

I think it is simply the fact that colds don't kill you
yeah they suck and then they're over
probably worth devoting time towards the shit that may kill you

But its like the car industry. .. someone has to make the kia ... not everyone can work on the Bentley

I mean they use to prescribe and still do in the lowly cheap codiene ... stronger opium based meds because as a cough suppressant it truly works the best but now they've found its addictive nature is too much to give people 4 times a year and they can't find to many substitutes. .. its like every good cough med can be abused in one way or another now... shits crazy lol

My old ass doc I saw as a kid gave me amoxicillin for everything... looking back I realise now he was prob a quack but I swear he thought that shit was a miracle in a bottle I prob have an immunity to that shit lol

And I know what your saying .. they looking to further the research into curing or bettering treatment for terminal illnesses and I think that's great but not everyone is doing that... theirs some coats in a pfizer lab rignt now trying to make a better viagra, theirs other coats in other labs testing more and more new antidepressants on mice and rats ...

I'm just saying somone could dedicate a little time to it it could be a huge breathrough...

Destroyer 08-31-2013 11:28 AM

yeah but all that breakthrough means is that can't sell cold meds to people all fucking year long
there's no money in it bro
u know it's all about that chedda
the Benjamin's

Well there is no such thing as the 'common' cold, the virus differs all the time, but the symptoms stay basically the same.

Which explains why there is no cure.

NO

there is one cure to rule them all!

Destroyer 08-31-2013 11:39 AM

one cure to bind them!

Witty 08-31-2013 11:40 AM

One cure to find them
One cure to cure them all and in the hospital bind them

Witty 08-31-2013 11:42 AM

Fucking destroyer got there first :(

You cant let me have one moment can you?

You know that colds etc. strengthen your immune system and makes it less prone to catch other germs, right? If you never got sick your body's natural immune system would be shit.

Yes I know this .... it is just baffling that with medical breakthroughs their is no real treatments for this virus

Witty 08-31-2013 12:25 PM

Because it isn't one single virus.

Motherfuckers making me repeat myself.

Inno 08-31-2013 12:26 PM

Ive never had a cold.

I shoot orange juice into my vains every morning.

No pulp of course. ..that would be messy

No I ignored it ... the flu isn't one virus either .... they make meds to treat wide strands of common sicknesses for that reason

Penicillin can treat anything from a simple internal/external infection to stds like chlamydia

Nothing works on the cold, Nothing

Huh.

Google it man.

Inno 08-31-2013 12:33 PM

I alternate every other day with it.

But seriously. I dont get sick...I get sick maybe twice a year.

But.

When I do get sick...its intense lol

God Of War 08-31-2013 12:36 PM

there is litereally millions of cold viruses, it would be impossible to cure, which is why they make medicine to fight symptoms. its also fact you cant catch the same strand twice

Rawn M.D. 08-31-2013 12:37 PM

Few reasons imo

colds germs mutate at a fast rate that's why our natural immunity fails most of the time
antibiotics r indicated on a gram stain + or - basis n they have cell walls that r hard to break thru n make the infected cells

over prescription of antibiotics causes 2 things the host to become immune to the antibiotics and the germ to recognize the antibiotics and thereby render in ineffective
The more a germ recognizes the antibiotic and renders it ineffective the less medication we have to battle it and then it creates 'superbugs' which medicine can't treat

Ita more a cost benefit analysis then anything they don't want to prescribe bc although surface receptors differ on cold types basic genetic makeup is fairly similar and the more drugs u introduce to cure the infection the less future defense the patient has to prospective colds

so destro is right a cold won't kill u so they treat it n save the stronger drugs for wen they r truely needed
