finally done tinkering with mine for awhile after getting a new case and fans today.

any of you with desktops, what are you working with?

fucking thing is huge. thats the one i got too, without the side panel glass/see through stuff. just wanted a black no nonsense setup. the rgb shit is gay to me. the original case i got with this new build had a glass side and front, and 6 rgb fans, the motherboard has rgb shit on it and the cooler my cpu came with as well. and i mean it looked cool and all but was gay and annoying right next to me all lit up. but word, went with all noctua fans. as intakes i got, 1, 200 mm in the front, 2, 120 mm on the drive cages behind it, and 5, 140 mm fans, 1 on the bottom as another intake, and for exhaust 3 on the top and the one in the back.

so just in the fans and the case i got $300.

also before you look at that link and see a 3k pc not including the 200 in fans i put in it, keep in mind i reuse the majority of the hard drives, and bought most of it in black friday bundles. also this was done with the future in mind in the hopes that i can reuse a bunch of shit, hard drives, case, fans, etc. and upgrade it a bit at a time, instead of this all at once horse shit

Macbook pro 2015 i7/16gbs running mojave and emacs

Hp probook, i5/8gbs running arch linux with dwm

Pc is rocking r5 1600x 32gbs of ram and a 1070 atm, downgraded that a lot giving parts to friends and family as I go on like 20 hrs of use a year gaming now

Spent about 1800 when it was all said and done. I had a build before this, but that time I got the parts and had a nerd homie put that shit together for me. Had it for like 5 years and decided I wanted a new one. This time around I actually put it together myself.

we both got these optical drive slots lol. i need to figure out something to do with them since discs are dead. we both opted for older cases i think?, but everything new is kinda wack unless you drop crazy money.

and word seth thats still a solid gaming pc tho. i built mine with gaming in mind but tried to make it workstationISH. so if i ever get around to messing with videos and shit. but its already paying off with the little bit of 3d modelling i dabble in.

but im coming off a 4 core 4790 with 1333 ddr3. i guess it was 2166 or some shit but i didn't know i could boost it the entire time i had it. but word the 2080ti and the 8 cores is kinda crazy in these shitty programs like blender and stuff in comparison

my next purchases are all gonna be music related though. gonna go full native instruments or whatever. kontrol 49 and komplete and then probably the maschine.

gonna try and chill on spending though. might just scrap the jeep after this winter and get a new beater to trash for another few years

honestly I don't know what my pc is.. says dell inspiron on the side and my speakers which are dope say cambridge soundworks? Those things were dope but I move around a bit so hauling around all this shit for years won't happen. My laptop that I got like a a year and a half ago maybe.. was the cheapest dell insperon laptop... I'm not even trying to doing anything cool with it, email, regular internet stuff, porn, thats it. So it had a charging problem like male part would stick into the female part but it was loose and it wouldn't charge.... I got drunk, stomped the fuck out of it, took the rest of it to the trash

A few weeks later I figure like you maybe its a malfunction... got my girlfriend to buy it... and my girlfriends mom to buy it.. same thing happens.. and I bought it myself... horrible peice of shit

and I figured out what was wrong with it.. the charger connection, male thing to female was lose and it just would go.. I thought it was just my problem... happened with my gfs and my wifes..but I don't have a lot of money... well I do I could drop like 1k on a computer, but if I did that I better feel real real comfortable that it works out nah mean

so I can't tell you what to do, but I can tell you what not to do

it was a $1500 build, had to buy a tower, went with the Spec 02 corsair carbide series..

this was the last desktop that had any interest on it, i basicly have been modeling all my ish after it but this one is like 3 years old

hell yea dude. our motherboards are basically the same i think but i got wifi, but also mine gets alot of hate because it allegedly runs hot. the vrms or whatever? im still new to this lol. but its been performing great

i also sold the 3800 and bought the 3950x.

my whole system is ridiculous overkill, but i remember you talking about blender, i basically built mine with programs like that in mind, along with gaming. the graphics card is only really worth it when it comes to rendering animations, but most of that has to do with the memory (11 gb) and all the cuda cores

i did mine over months though. like i bought the 2080 ti and put it in my old rig. but then eventually just built a new one around it.

i don't plan on upgrading for a long time now lol. as far as gaming and shit i should be set for years to come

it was fun figuring it out though. my only regret is my case is enormous, and i got a fuckload of fans, so it basically keeps my entire room clean of dust because it pulls all the dust into it lol. gotta clean the filters and blow this thing out constantly

question, did you put on the I/O shield? the silver thing that goes in the back. I left mines off
got 3 fans in the front and one in the back.. and everything lights up, and my case has a glass side so it is distracting
