Voting doesn't NOT make a difference, you fools!

What we need to do is completely gut out the entire system of government. The presidential, legislative, and judicial all need to be wiped clean and restarted by the peoole. The corruption is so deeply rooted and concrete that I truly don't believe any pure politician singular or plural can make a difference. Which ultimately is why I believe voting doesn't matter. As soon as a person with pull or influece goes against the few people that are making thing things like this happen, they ended up dead...

I see voting as throwing a cup of water on a raging forest fire.

Is there anyone with the logic to the contrary?

Twodrop 06-07-2018 02:16 PM

politicians should just PM legislature to dull boy before anything is final, imho.

A democracy is not needed.

Destroyer 06-07-2018 02:16 PM

Everything you just said is wrong?
I don’t really know where to begin

I don't think I understand anything other than you think the status quo is bad, but I'll try to argue for funsises.

I wouldn't necessarily go that far. I think with truly comprehensive campaign finance reform, it could be achieved. Currently, money = speech and corporations are considered people. The problem is that this sort of change would need to come from a legislative body, usually elected, who's elections have big money in them, and the big donors pump money into campaigns that let them continue consolidation of money, which becomes more influence to have on further elections.

In theory, a local government elected by a well-informed community could beat the odds on a small scale, and this happening across the board could help less corrupt people come to power, which could lead to a more balanced framework for national government (eg redistricting) which might make an individual vote more equal

That's about all I got

voting is definitely important but in bad shape rn I agree. DB has put a 5 member panel in place for the rebuttal tourney to cast the votes on all battles. im excited to see the effect this has on the outcome of text battles.

Veritas has much to say about this

Diode 06-07-2018 03:05 PM

Lobbying and funding restrictions with strict civil and criminal penalties are the only solution.

Which will never happen.

Would it even matter?

uh-oh 06-07-2018 05:53 PM

realistically our 2 party system is terrible, compounded by the money issues

the roman republic was the greatest most just form of government. capitolism at its finest. the free market run amok. early america was great as well.

the downfall of all political systems is bloat. the only answer to that bloat is a terrible bloody violent revolution. the problem with that however is the world is too small now. outside governments would wield too much influence in the aftermath and another true and just system wouldn't be able to take hold to acquire a natural bloat. it would be corrupted on the onset

so just enjoy your life. bust nuts, and put money on text tournaments you're not even going to keep up with
