Solo
It’s good. Better if you know a lot about the films and Rebels/Clone War animated series’.
Guy who played Han was good, but I kept thinking how much better this movie could have been if a young Ford had played him. Glover was excellent. Looking forward to future installments outside of the Skywalker saga. |
Episode 7 and 8 have already made the franchise unbearable. Plus all these half ass spin offs I'm sick of it.

The problem with ‘the Skywalker saga’ is Lucas couldn’t make what he wanted back then. He started in the middle because he couldn’t do I-III and no one thought it would make any money, nevermind what it’s become. The scenes from IV-VI don’t carry the appropriate emotional tone. Disney should have scrapped everything and just made episode I with the story and style of these newer movies in mind. |
Firstly, Kylo Ren carries no weight w/ me as a villain.
Secondly, who else thinks it would have been better w/ a double turn at the end of 8? Rey falls to the will of that grey thing and Kylo fails saving her. I can offer more sympathy for Kylo, and Rey should just be Vader's reincarnation. Or Rey can be a good guy but she still should still be more closely linked w/ Vader, as they alluded to all throughout the last 2 movies. Then Kylo is just like, "Rey ur parents are simple farmers" and that's that. I was so into that movie when Luke was teaching her in using the force and it was showing her descent into the dark side. His line: "I've only ever seen one person go so fast to the dark side" or whatever gave me chills but they leave it cold at the end. Ole greyneck held no weight to me either, his death meant nothing. There was no building up of Kylo or any of the bad guys, we're just supposed to assume he is a threat because of his link to the Order. Some key things lend into the reincarnation theory: Rey's reaction to Vader's lightsaber is 10x stronger than Luke's, w/ vivid flashbacks Force training w/ Luke Alone on desert planet, parents dead Able to overpower the interrogation in 7 before she even knows she's got the Force JUST GIVE ME MY CUSTOM LORE PLEASE |
All these new Star Wars movies have taken away from the significance of the original films, meaning it’s no longer special. It’s being raped by corporations for the sole purpose of profit, exploiting and riding the wave of the best movie franchise in history

Imagine watching star wars primarily for the emotional tone

Not seen Solo want to though, the rouge one spin off is by far the best they have done with the franchise thus far. The new skywalker storyline is just ridiculous to me. Kylo is not the dark sides champion. Snook was not allowed time to build as the big bad, we hardly knew him before he was snuffed out, an by two novices at that. The only saving grace of the two films is Lukes ownage of Kylo in the last film or any scene with harrison ford. Bar that I have had no emotional connection with anything its offered, where rogue one nailed that emotional impact as well as offering respectable nods to what came before it. The next film is an undertrained highly force sensitive daughter of a farmer vs a bratty kid who wants attention. I dont think i will bother watching it tbh If anything rouge one was so good and gritty its ruined a new hope for me because i cant get over the rebels jumping from dark greater good morally questionable bad asses to 80s hair cuts an goody goody attitudes |
idk how i feel about this spin off.

Wrath BTFO in this topic.
Going to see Solo sometime this Summer. Heard it had a troubled production. Agree on the sentiment that Rogue One is the best of new bunch. New mainline editions aren't as bad as some people try to make them out to be. Just the normal backlash cycle. |

rogue one might have been good if i cared about any of the characters dying. gerrera and gelan were potentially interesting characters who just fell to the wayside. the robot and the blind chinese guy were the departures that had the most (but not much) emotional heft, maybe because at that point it confirms everyone is doomed.
i liked kylo in ep VII. i haven't seen ep VIII and solo doesn't interest me. |
doublepost.

it really under performed this past weekend. i think the studio was banking on a 150 mill opening weekend but it ended up taking only 83 millions. I think a combination of SW fatigue and the criticism of the lead actor may have contributed to that. Reviews weren't too kind either.

I'm reading this thread with the Stars wars theme playing in my head
