I'm building a house and it's very stressful.

Has anyone here done it before?

We're suddenly switching models / floor plans entirely now. I'm not even at the design-the-interior stage yet. My head is ready to explode.

Let me know your experience if you've ever done it before.

Recently remodeled my home. It is very stressful. Are you using a contractor or doing the work yourself?

uh-oh 03-07-2018 06:17 PM

whats the property looking like tho dawgggg

and what are the upsides of having a house built vs. just buying one? is it actually cheaper/you get some kind of break or something?

We're building in a new, small development over the bridge from the beach:

https://www.jwhomes.com/Find-Your-Ho...w-Neighborhood

I wish I had more say in the matter. The model/elevation we want is the model home but we've been beaten to the punch on it anywhere we can build it *and* its next closest alternative. We'd lose the full double porches for only half-ones and lose the 6 french doors onto them for regular windows and one door per porch (the upstairs one would go through a bedroom to get there too). We love the inside floorplan the most but are now 99% committed to switching to a model whose interior isn't as favorable but has the full width double porches and french doors. also it has an elevator shaft which will be good for our respective parents since the houses are raised 14ft and that's a lot of stairs for old folks.

It really sucks spending a shitload of money and not being able to build exactly what you want but I was late to the game on committing and this is the only lot with a marsh view left so we're stuck with its restrictions (mind you I am not *on* the marsh like the back line of houses - those are all 1.3-1.5 million homes. ya boy ain't that well off).

location and modern architecture. existing homes in this area of town are either very old and small or have been recently built but by nutjob artsy types and have bizarre layouts.

go to portugal and build an entire house out of timber for a couple hundred.

solar power some shits, live near a natural stream/spring, hunt game.

profit.

You over exaggerate things sometimes so wasn’t sure. Usually don’t run into things that change floor plans in a fresh build

Monotony rules limited what I can build on the lot I want. I'm not happy with the build I'm forced to use if I want to keep the floor plan, so we're likely switching to a different build with a less desirable floor plan but the outer decks and access I want.

word that looks pretty dope.

i have to consistently remind myself that most people aren't like me. lol. if i was in a position to build/buy/whatever my forever home it would be at least a jog from my nearest neighbor. i would want more space around the home basically.

but the location and shit seems pretty solid and im sure the neighbors are good neighbors to have

i would just hate for my white trashness to bubble up and bother them on some godforsaken night.

you seem to have yours well under wraps though.

lol

i would also like more space. my current house is almost a 3rd of an acre corner lot cul de sac. i'm giving up a lot of it but the location is ridiculous. there's no more new building going on that end of town and it's the most desirable location in the town. just have to accept it or flip it a few years down the road for profit like i'm going to do with the current house.
