props to mechanics

wtf

i got a 2000 cherokee thats pretty clean and shit. well my back shocks are going bad so i copped some new ones, and the steering stabilizer is close to being shot so i grabbed one.

its been slow at work so i figured i should start trying to do more mechanical shit.

worst decision of my life.

i can't get the steering stabilizer out to save my life. the side that bolts to the frame came out stupid easy, but i also used the last of the pb blaster i had on it prior, thinking the side that goes in the steering shaft or whatever the fuck its called would come out easy since its not threaded. wrong. i got the cotter pin out of it and bent a fucking wrench trying to break it loose. on some superman shit. it was a cheapo shop wrench though, so i grabbed my good craftsmen one and tried again, torched it and wd40'd it which is shit compared to pb blaster. but i broke the entire bolt off.

so basically their is an unthreaded bolt type deal stuck in the shaft thing.

i torched it, greased it, torched it. fucking beat on it, used some pitman puller thing on it, everything, nothing budged it. so i said fuck it and tried drilling it out.

destroyed the air drill. bearing or something went out in it. it was some harbor freight trash though, shop tool, i don't have one. made some more progress with an electric drill, maybe since it was slower it cuts into steel better? i dunno, but i drilled almost all the way through it , but its still in there. because its shaped like a V sorta. so the sides are still stuck/fused and its just got a hole up through the middle. but word air hammers sledge hammers etc, nothing is touching it.

i think if i took the bar off i'd probably have to get an alignment? itd be easier to beat on it that way, assuming the bolts holding it in don't snap too lol.

long story not short, since i just told it all, fuck it. im not even touching the back shocks.

monday i'm limping it to an actual mechanic. my body is destroyed. from pushing and yanking and wacking shit. im gonna stick to body work. refer to thread title.

Word. Working on older shit get progressively worse. My truck hasn’t been too bad, but a buddy with an 01 is a bitch. Every little bolt is 10x as tough.

i miss my bronco. it was just way too rusty underneath to save. the body was decent but the frame and everything essential was just murdered from ohio winters. (salted roads etc.).

this thing doesn't even feel like a truck but its grown on me. its basically just a big car. all quiet and runs great, i can just feel the back shocks are getting stiff when i hit bumps and RR tracks and shit.

i figured those would be the more difficult install, because of where they're at and the factory bolts are always done for, so i purchased like a special kit and everything for the install of the new ones.

the steering stabiliser was supposed to be the easy fix, literally 2 bolts lol. one where its secured to the frame and one where it slides through the steering thing and you put a nut on it. boom fixed.

thats what irritated me the most, knowing that if i could just get the old one off, the new one goes on so easy. i worked a few hours on it yesterday, and a couple today, it wasn't happening. they might have to throw in a new steering thing i dunno, the whole front end kit thing is only like 100 bucks i might have them redo the whole shit

only because im cool with them though, i bought it off them and they also do repairs. its a shop we do alot of paintwork for, so i can get shit done for the low.

but word im gonna have all this fixed and use it as my daily driver, its too clean and good on gas. im gonna be on the market again soon for another bronco. i just loved that big stupid fuck machine, and now i can drop 5-6 on a good eddie bauer type one thats been kept well. the one i had was just the big XLT for 2500 or some shit, but i ended up putting that into it just to keep it going.

around the 2:10 mark is what i couldn't get out.(also the screencapof the vid itself.) i didn't have any threads sticking out tho because it broke off just getting the nut off it. but i had a similar tool he used to pop it out, but mine didn't budge at all. it was like fused in. just 17 years of it being stuck in there i dunno lol
