What defines a textcee as one of the GOATs?
 

For me, personally, it’s all about longevity – and consistency over an extended period – the ability to beat and compete among the very best there are.

You’ll find several dominant textcees who remained at the pinnacle through their eras. The likes of Aloe, Fracture, Resin etc in the battle world. The likes of Richard Corey, Tali Rodriguez and ThaTalent in the topical realm.

It’s all subjective, of course, but the likes of those named are generally thrown around when the topic gets brought up. I think it’s largely due to their longevity in the game, and their styles being so well honed, that makes me think of these as some of the GOATs in their fields.

Yes, some have beaten them, but in a one-off battle I honestly believe anyone can beat anyone on their day providing they’ve done this a short while enough to understand what works. This doesn’t mean you’re also a great. And here we head back to my initial point about consistency. These guys have beat and competed against the very best, consistently, over a number of years and come out on top. These are the elite of the elite tier. The best of the best. And that, to me, makes them join the GOAT tier.

Who the very best are is another subjective thread for another time, but that’s how I define my GOATs. Of course, some have done this 10+ years and still suck. There’s no hope for them if they’ve deluded themselves this long.

No shade thrown, just opinion.

Here to say I agree that anyone can beat anyone provided they have the experience to know what works. It's all about effort, & being free from distractions imo.. in the battle game anyway.

I've beaten some of the best & lost to some fucking no names(not often tho).

Even a blind squirrel gets a nut some day.

Consistency is definitely the measure when talking GOATs tho, obviously.

I have a few notable (to me) wins against Sephiroth, Serge and the good Metts brother. I would freely admit to not being the text battler those guys are/were at their primes though.

I was always more a topical head, especially over the course of the last 7-8 years.

In my younger, naive, RapBattles/RipTheMic days I was predominantly a text battler (albeit not a very good one).

TL;DR: I am one of the topical GOATs. Even @deadman ducked a battle vs me this week. @Pent uP has ducked me twice now in significant tourneys here. I beat @Certain, beat @Vulgar, beat @unbornbuddah, beat @Adonis, beat @Mr.j, beat Objective, beat @Frank beat @MMLP, BEAT @Nigma with a verse I keyed on short notice after he got noshowed, I posted the same day and won, beat @timeless, beat @Innovator Who do I need to beat to finally solidify my spot with gorillas, huh?

Week 1: Adonis (0-0) vs. Mr. J (0-0) - Beat both these guys already. Mr. J got that 7-0 shutout treatment in the tourney finals. Ooooooosht!

Week 1: Legion (0-0) vs. Frank (0-0) - Already beat Frank to be crowned a champ. Legion was never signed in until just now. He can get this work.

Week 1: MMLP (0-0) vs. 2tripple0 (0-0) - Beat both these guys already. No interest in a rematch. MMLP my boy but he got Brian Bryan'd 13-0.

Week 1: Jesodist (0-0) vs. Timeless (0-0) - Beat Timeless already like 3-4 times, we've battled at PR also and I won there too. Pretty sure I beat Jesodist already but he can catch this work a second time if i'm mistaken?
