So what music didn't suck this year?

Didn't feel a lot this year

Even what made it into NPR's rotation was underwhelming

Dug the Anderson .Paak album

Radiohead for sure

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWrSXORs_jM

Moon Hooch (mostly instrumental electronic sounding band with 2 saxes and a drummer)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mBGsRtxzbo&t=22s

Danny Brown was cool

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spfsdpuvUyQ

Blonde was probably my favorite

Chance/Tribe/De la was solid

I starting making Dub (instrumental reggae) to make fun of music... here's Chopin redone as reggae

Haven't listened to Childish Gambino and J Cole yet but I've heard good things. Glasper/Miles Davis was a cool idea but I wasn't crazy about it. What say you netcees? I miss any good music of 2016?

The Dead Poet 12-12-2016 08:47 PM

I like the ab soul album more than the jcole album. Childish Gambino's albums was out of nowhere. I hate him as a rapper and his shitty voice. I got a txt telling me to swollow my hate for him and to listen to the album. I had to do a double check to see if I had downloaded the right album. It's a straight up blend of music I play on a regular basis (Parliament Funkadelic, early Prince, Bootsy Collins, Earth Wind and Fire). There's a good deal of duds on it, but the songs that are good are really fucking good.

The only joint I skip on that album is "California." That song could have easily been left off, and the album would have been exponentially better because of it.

Anyways, Some stand outs to me include:

Bas - Too High To Riot
Jerreau - Never How You Plan
Brockhampton - All American Trash
Chane The Rapper - Coloring Book
Oddisee - The Odd Tape
Schoolboy Q - Blank Face
Tonedeff - Polymer
Phonte & Eric Roberson - Tigallerro
Isaiah Rashad - The Sun's Tirade
Mac Miller - The Divine Feminine
Solange - A Seat At The Table
Skyzoo & Apollo Brown - Easy Truth
Dave East - Kairi Chanel
NxWorries - Yes Lawd!
Joe Budden - Rage & The Machine
A Tribe Called Quest - We Got It From Here... Thanks 4 Your Service
Smoke DZA & Pete Rock - Don't Smoke Rock
Childish Gambino - Awaken, My Love
Spillage Village - Bears Like This Too Much
Post Malone - Stoney

In looking through my itunes I've realized two things; This year had a slow start on the dope shit, but a lot of cool albums came out over the last couple months. And also, I have downloaded a shitload of albums that I never listened to this year...

TLOP is a top 4 Kanye album, which is saying a lot. I'm with you, Des. I'm with you.

Yeah the track's fire.

I've listened to roughly 2 albums from 2016. Just streamed that Anderson .paak album. "Put Me Thru" is the best of the bunch, and the Game feature song and the one Sharp posted are dope. There's some track that is just a blatant rip off of one of D'Angelo's Black Messiah tracks.

Album in avy is pretty good. Best song (just for the chorus):

What month did that drop? March? If so, I havent listened to it since April. Or whatever month it came out, I haven't listened to it since the month after that.

Honestly, His last three albums haven't had longevity to me. I'll give em a few spins, but none of the songs are really gripping enough to me for me to want to come back to them time and time again.

Conversely, I just went back and listened to the Bas album again two days ago. And every time he drops a new video, I go back and listen to the whole album again. I still listen to the Jerreau album.

Kanye's album, at this point, I would skip most of.

Atmosphere - fishing blues
Journalist 103 - battle of the hearts and minds
Vinnie paz - cornerstone of the corner store
Aesop Rock - impossible kid
Apathy - handshakes with snakes
Ras kass - intellectual property

oats 12-14-2016 06:42 AM

Anderson Paak's album was dope, probably my favorite of the year.
Coloring Book was really good.
I still listen to Life of Pablo tbh.
Kevin Gates was dope.

Still haven't listened to ATCQ or J Cole's yet, been meaning to get around to those.

Witty 12-14-2016 09:14 AM

Have listened to TLOP yet, which is strange because I'm a big fan of Kanye's music. Been busy is all. Will download today.

Maximus 12-14-2016 03:57 PM

Destroyer 12-16-2016 09:09 PM

You're either dumb or trolling
Either way I don't care

~RustyGunZ~ 12-16-2016 10:19 PM

I'm serious and more intelligent than you bro don't start with me

You'll eat up anything pop culture feeds you

There has been nothing artistic about Kanye music since the mid 2000s
