When you feel super old...

We've all aged. Share your most recent tale of feeling like a geezer.

For me, I was recently talking to one of my employees who is 23 years old. We were talking about hip hop and I was telling him about some of my favorite albums. So I went home, and I burned him a copy of The Roots "Do You Want More?!!!??!" And I gave it to him the other day, all excited about it. And he was like "I don't have anything to play this on. I don't have a cd player anywhere."

And I felt like I was a million years old.

every goddamn day, dude. I was the youngest teacher at my old school in the states, and now I'm one of the oldest in my company + the team leader at my campus. working with people fresh out of college, who come to work hungover everyday and talk about getting fucked up the night before, and how bored I get with those conversations nowadays, makes me feel like I'm 50. and I'm not even 30.

but @kannon, USBs are the new burned CDs.

Bruh... Okay, so I was never a great breakdancer, but I could do a mean top rock in my hey day. Last July, I attempted to relive my younger years and literally ruptured my achilles.

Had surgery. Spent 8 weeks in a cast. 8 more weeks in a boot. Spent most of those 4 months on a scooter just to get around. I'm still in physical therapy once a month.

Cause I thought I could still get down.

haha fuck man, that's rough. I did something similar early last year. saw a skateboard kicking around, started reliving my glory days of teenage shredding, and decided to bomb a hill. I didn't notice a group of chicks walking up the hill, so when I got to the bottom I ate it trying to avoid hitting them and fucked up my shoulder, still acts up and is painful a year later. just not indestructible anymore.

Recently I tried to do some trick fucking and got one of those charlie horses that get more and more intense with each split second that you try to ignore it.

So there I am trying to walk it off while I'm skeeting all over the place.

My ex coworker wanted to go to a club/bar for his going away party. The place was crawling with 21 year old kids that were way too drunk and way too dressed up. Felt old as fuck

All transitions in life are all equally valid. from infancy to youth, to old age. And while being young has obvious physical components attached to it, youthfulness does not. The great Daoist sage Lao Zi, 老子 literally means old child. Because aging is a phenomenon that has to do with the mind just as it has to do with the body. There are plenty of exemplary figures who maintain great vigor and vitality, more so than most "young people". Sure they perhaps can't do what they could when they were a tad younger, nevertheless, they display an admirable type of vitality, of life force.
Of course, one has to adopt different habits as one progresses through life, one can't pull all-nighters as easily, but honestly all nighters no matter the age are horrible for one's health, and if one wants to be healthy just for that and drinking or partying, etc.. then one doesn't understand what it is to age gracefully and how to conserve oneself. There is a great tradition called yang sheng 養生, which means nourishing life, one's own. And a significant factor of doing so is harmonization with the cycles of time, which include doing things at regular hours, and having a consistent circadian rhythm aligned with evolutionary instinct. It is no coincidence those who work night shifts have a higher rate of metabolic diseases because of going against the current.
If one wants to really go against the current of aging, one needs to make sacrifices and abandon behavior that harms one's life in the long run. This is more than just nutrition, or taking the new supplement or doing the next fad exercise, no it also has to do with changing one's mind and heart, not be so rigid and being in many ways like a child again. A mind like spring, which is synonymous with growth, at this point in time of course, in winter it is best to conserve and be more introspective.

I legit had to explain to my little bro that phones haven't always been able to connect to the internet, or even take photos, or anything a modern phone can do. He looked at me like he was impressed I survived those prehistoric times.
