is kanye west the best producer of all time?

legit thread.

dj premier is da god. also when mentioning producers i pretty much completely discount original/keyboard beatmakers and really only have respect for sample based producers. well thats wrong, i have great respect for original composer type dudes, southern style, west coast whatever. i just think i hold sample based dudes to a higher esteem/respect? anyways.

honestly kanye was ridiculous. completely ridiculous. i always put preme at #1 for the simplicity of his dopeness and his ability to make incredible beats that really ain't complicated, i mean. hmm.

they are complicated though. for those not too up on what goes into it. and since this post is already completely too long i will lengthen it more. dj premier's sample style is heavily influenced by the earlier samplers and machines like the sp1200, and mpc60-2. on these machines you had a limited amount of sample time. so if you found a dope song to sample, you could only record like 10 seconds or something ridiculous, but thats including drum sounds and everything, like the memory could only hold 10-12 seconds or something at once, so just a kick hat and snare would take like 2 seconds of that time, depending on the length of the ambience after the initial strike. anyways this forced producers to take STAB style chops. for instance

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ7qkQ7Fbjc

he took those strings, literally like 2 chops, and used them to make that nastiness. there is the bass string in the back which is probably a constant in the two main stabs of the BUHHBUH BAHHHBAH. but word, that with the drums and some bass. classic banger that gives you feeling. but i mean it is what it is. and you take it at face value. he's incredible for making something so simple that the more you listen to it the more you inclined to break your fucking neck instead of throwing your headphones off at the repetitiveness. he's a G.

BUT NOW KANYE.

he came up with better mpc's. better keyboards like the asr10. sample time wasnt really an issue. he also came up in a world where there were defined sounds of all coasts, and being from the midwest, all of those were able to influence him. the funkiness of the west, the banging shit from the south, and the gritty east coast shit. also spear heading the soul sample movement to the mainstream, WITH those elements. he was a fucking animal.

my next post in this thread is gonna have so many god damn classic beats it makes me sick.

the 00's were full of so many sick kanye beats. man.

In to hear beats

uh-oh 07-24-2015 09:35 PM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=See0q6nZQZ8

simple. the drumsounds are whatever if you actually pay attention they sound terrible. the open hihat is corny and generic, the snares whatever. the kick is serviceable. the arrangement is just enough. the sample is a very simple loop from a known artist. the chorus he brings in a simple string note to add variation. but thats a classic track from BEANS. one of the main reason you even know who that hooligan from philly is

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZzzxBhDG3A

alot more going on in this. the bassline he played is filthy. the sample is disgustingly beautiful. his use of the little mermaid steel drums/xylophone in this might be the only time i've ever heard them used where i liked them. drums are perfect. the claplike snare. hat only used to keep the groove going. classic song. beans stole this with his emotion. but face and jigga killed it as well. perfect beat. perfect track.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjHUydKve68

fuck it. keeping to the theme of BEANS. this is nastiness. the use of pitch on the bassline. the sample is fire, his breakdown inspired countless producers arrangements. how he has the big 2 bar breakdown at the start of a loop instead of the end, and letting it chill for the next segment with the hummin and whooing. drums doing enough. fire beat.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xF0CGvhpF4

anthem shit. another masterful use of some soulful fire. beat speaks for itself.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VjfSE1QzTY

REMEMBER THAT SHIT THO. ill sample. dope bass fingering. dope drums, light ride driving the kick and snare. just a flawless beat.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIS3KouPdgM

another beans/jay/face record. this has one of my favorite basslines of all time. its stupid busy which is usually bad. you wanna let the low end breathe, and he does, at the beginning of the verses, like the first 4 bars is the sample and drums, and then the bass comes in spazzing with the short stabs. the sample layering of the main piece with the shit he lays over top toward the end of verses into the hook. nasty as fuck.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVtpXvzzXiA

one of my favorite beats of all time. the piano is nice. the bassline is dope. the drums are slapping, the track itself is a classic. this shit is pure filth when looked at from a production standpoint. across the board.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKalVf6FMYw

in this kanye took a departure to the south to help blow ti up and show he was doing more than making shit like 24's. soulful shit. more hummin and hooing of samples. shakers in the beat moving the drums along. banger.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ST6ZRbhGiA

alicia keys da goddess. yeezy killed this. the whoooos contrasting with alicia keys beatiful vocals, the piano rundown, the simple boom boom bap, buhboomboom bap of the drums with the rimshot snare. this is beautiful shit right here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=copiznIfV3E

this was fire. the guitar. the drums are dope, the bass is moving and dope. a synth bass laid over the actual bass guitar. really only included this cuz the beats dope and shit was a hit. the layers are ill.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z9jzGI96GA

lesson in drumwork for producers. his use of the tom drums, the breakdowns with the snares kicks and sample work, the chipmonk vocals spazzing. the unorthodox vocal sample in the beat during the hook, the strings the keys. this is ridiculous, the bongos going the kick and clap filthy. this is one of his most slept on beats. shit was the anthem back in the day. he was coming into his own for real with this. he's a fucking animal for this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RssxfTWi3Go

fucking FIRE. same break used for the drums as get by. sample is grimy and perfect for MOBB. that filtered guitar. this shit is disgusting.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMOy9SsUQ7U

FIRE. dope drums. dope sample usage. his usage of vocal samples and strings make me sick.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pU0q5CsIc9s

piano is dope. john legend killing it. the beat drops heavy with the guitars, drums are reserved since its some r'n'b stuff but the beat itself is arranged ill and shits dope.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmnFNp9rG58

CLASSIC.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7OdnCDK2UA

another one where yeezy's breakdowns/switchups are ridiculous. the string stabs, the drums going, the guitar picking, this is ill.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPFW1RWBFd8

KILLA. chipmonk dipset era. smoothness. while on the subject of killa and YE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaIq-RAYK8M

nothing to be said. and by that i mean everything is to be said. the bassline is filthy. cam showing why he's top 3. the strings the drums, the integration of the hummin and the vocals DOWN DOWN, this is filthy. the shake. you can tell he had the hook and chopped and arranged the beat to bring it to life. fire.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVtaQ4du0bE

his trademark busy bass. sickening sample work. all the keyboard work. the drums. fire.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eztiFr2qrm8

almost forgot that. which is weird cuz its my ANTHEM OF LIFE.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZRH68Ib1Ko

so sick. the vocals repetitive but the bass and drums and snare like the gavel kills it. dope.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2K0q74jtV8s

are you fucking kidding me. probably my favorite. i dunno they always change. but this bassline. the bongos/congas. the drums. the guitar. the vocal chops. the strings fucking FILTHY

pretty sure all of these are from 2000-2004

i didnt even include any of his own shit, that he rapped over.

but basically his catalog is kind of unfair. he might be the best ever. and it took me stoned on a friday night to come to the conclusion. i think i gotta put him over premier. premier has so many classic beats, but his style is limited, and in that he makes magic happen, but its like comparing a sketch to a painting. if him and kanye both sketched pictures with a pencil premier would shit on em. but give em both an easel and ye shines. and its mainly because premier was so ill at drawing with a pencil he never had to fuck with paint.

im high. long post over. ye is the goat. who cares if he makes shitty electronic nonsense anymore. even his halfhearted sample attempts like bound 2 get people hype. imagine if he quit being a celebrity and just went digging all the time and went back to making sample based shit with banging drums and filthy synth basslines.

PancakeBrah 07-24-2015 09:45 PM

He's part of a group of four or five producers where if someone thinks they're the best I wouldn't argue. For a certain generation of listeners, of which I'm a part of, he takes the honor. Premier is more important but Kanye's beats resonate with me more just because of when he first surfaced.

Kanye, Premier, Dre, and uh oh. Anyone who mentions one of those four doesn't get a heated argument from me.

Hush 07-24-2015 09:49 PM

Rza premier and Dre all better

Kanye only got 2 good albums
1 classic

They all arguably got more

El Muffin 07-25-2015 07:32 AM

lol that alias is killer

Amen. 07-25-2015 07:34 AM

no he is not

uh-oh 07-25-2015 10:53 AM

if anyone can make a coherent argument against him i'd be willing to listen.

i'm not expecting a post like i made, not because it took effort and time to put together, but because you cannot make one like that lol.

that was probably 30 percent of his beat placements between 2000-2004. meaning there are 70 percent more beats he produced in that time. for OTHER people.

i didn't include anything he kept for himself, and he's been on record saying he keeps his best beats cuz he hears them first lol.

jilti 07-25-2015 11:01 AM

Dre been killing it for decades my nigga. Look up dre's top 100 beats. Some lists have "in da club" as #70 of his all time beats, his catalog is ridiculous
