A bruised rib is a lame way to go tbh, that's Aldo's 5th time pulling out of a title defense. McGregor vs Mendes will still be a great fight, just not as worthy of hype as the fight we were expecting.

i was backing Aldo, i feel McGregor should beat Mendes. the irishman is a bit handsy with his TDD (expect Mendes to test this w/faked shots into overhand rights) but he should pick the midget apart on the outside and probably win even if Mendes can push it to an infight (bolo uppercut/left hook). should be a good one.

Aldo should be stripped of the title for this bullshit. It's happened too often.

as for the fight, I think Aldo beats McGregor, Mendes is interesting though. He's a plus athlete and has some of the best takedowns in the sport, and we haven't seen McGregor tested much in the clinch or on the ground. Threat of the TD will also likely curb his kickboxing a bit. No question McGregor has the striking advantage, but Mendes has solid defense, good hand speed and lots of power, def not a slouch on the feet. I'm pulling for McGregor to win cuz I still want to see McGregor-Aldo, but wouldn't be shocked to see Mendes grind it out.

You shouldn't be champion if you're too frail to defend your title 60% of the time.

LOL I've been involved with multiple training camps for friends of mine who fight. Even as a hobbyist I got injured. Aldo was in the middle of hard sparring and got kicked and his rib cracked - that's harder for you to believe than this conspiracy theory? it's idiotic.

People get injured all the time, especially when they OVERTRAIN. btw, Nova Uniao is infamous for overtraining and mismanaging its fighters' camps. Even with those 5 defenses he pulled out from, Aldo still averages the same amount of title defenses as just about every other champion. I'm a big McGregor fan, but don't get caught up in the hype.

I'm actually a little surprised they didn't put Frankie in, he strikes me as a more favorable matchup for McGregor (who the UFC no doubt wants to win next weekend). Mendes is a way more interesting fight though, stylistically. I'm actually pretty stoked about it. Not as good as Aldo-McGregor, but as close as you can get.
