Went to visit my friend's dying dog yesterday
 

Shit is brutal.
She's almost 17 years old, and is very weak, can barely stand, has lost a lot of her muscle mass, isn't really eating, etc...
But my friend is sitting there telling me how he has a plan to put her on a high protein diet to help rebuild muscle and all this, and its breaking my heart to hear him talk about it because this dog doesnt have a chance, she's just old and on her way out.
but sometimes, it gets me, how humans are utterly helpless to delay the inevitable, but still always feel the need to try

17 years is completely absurd for a dog.

The kindest thing to do in this kind of situation is have the dog put to sleep imo.

It might seem cruel, but the animal is in pain, at the most all that will happen by keeping it alive is to prolong that pain, best to let him/her go.

It's like watching part of your family die, I dunno how I'll deal with it when my dog's time comes.
