He had a nose for the hoop, yet somehow the balls never touched it.
Swished effortlessly, slicing the wind's breeze open like a severed stomach.
Let's weigh the odds and ends of the mold that he's cut from...
Less chasing 'gods'. Say amen to the souls that we've dug up.
Sun up 'til down, day turns into night's camouflage on que.
Proves that life will forever attempt to sabotage our mood.
Rain or shine with pain in mind, that was until love showed,
fading nigh to chasing tides as pain instills trust's road.
He followed a map where all signs point to success.
Then swallowed the trap in due time. Void of unrest.
Great ploys we regret, yet we continue to press on forth.
Maydays to the desk, radio blues undressed for more
battles on the grqpevines, rattled by claymores and landmines.
Cherry poppins is there saddled in, same whore that franchised
stealing v-cards from backsides. So wet she drains. Capsized.
Caught. Running away empty from life's restraint. Landslide.
Told a room full of witnesses that they won't get out alive.
We mistake life for death when the gold runs dry in the caverns.
Or was it when our 'superiors' told the lies of 'average'?
Lust is a commonly used word to describe the above.
Inside of each thrust, love's mood slurred an insight to discuss...
"Slide your balls in my hoop, I've had dreams of the feeling."
She got over the pole, he folds, and began retreating.
"Why she have to say such nasty shit? Such a turn off."
A virgin so close to folding his deck, or was it a hard earned loss?
It was all he could accept. Charting, tossed by seas of true schemes.
Virgin seen under a noose, swaying, preaching a new 'Hoop Dream'.
Whether basketball, ballfucking or suicide, life splits in three.
If you can't react, please feel free to join Certain without a victory.
Swaying, missing teeth.

Pressing the hardwood, the spindly-armed descendant of Sharman,
spinning with hard turns, flips his wrist with the rim as a target.
Splash. Buckets. Jack tucks his hair behind his ear
and faces up his defender with a stare, refined and fierce.
He's tougher than them. He's got to be.
The white kid with the shot from three who often seems
athletically outmatched by kids with melanin and fast-twitch
who aren't even impressed when he runs drills better than them — backwards.

Low to macadam, the sweat drips off his shoulders and backbone,
sizzling when it hits the blacktop mid-dribble. Cross over and pass them.
Tyrone soldiers with madness, head down as he scoops through the lane
and flips a teardrop over the outstretched arms consuming the paint.
He's quicker than them. It's his only hope.
The broken-home short kid with the chip too wide for his shoulder's slope.
The smallest at 5-1 but balling like Iverson. His anger was managed;
failing in math class but sees the court as a series of angles and tangents.

With the sight of his reach, the envious gasps run rife in the bleachers.
Grown men sidle next to him, perplexed at the size of his T-shirt.
Chisulo speaks four languages and prefers "Malawian" to "African."
His favorite players? Shaq and Tim. But he's new to organized practices.
He's bigger than them. It's how he got this gig.
From a Bamako soccer pitch to the dishonest grips of AAU promises.
Two years in the sport. But they say if he can block these kids,
they'll send him to a first-rate U.S. college on scholarship.

The court's buzzing. Talent overflowing in Springfield Hoophall,
where ESPN cameras soar over the rims, track every loose ball.
College coaches and NBA scouts sit, scribbling thoughts,
when in comes that blue-chip 6-10 forward with the skills of a guard.

He's better than them.

Odds and ends didn't work here

dope end rhyme and smooth delivery here.
Rain or shine with pain in mind, that was until love showed,
fading nigh to chasing tides as pain instills trust's road.
I don't like pain "instilling" trust's road. Weird use of language.

"swallowed the trap"? good rhymes tho.

Nice end

Weird. Fucking. Battle.

Timeless's verse seemed really good at first glance, and he had nice wording and some really good concepts. Then, he also had some trash-flavored bologna poopshit concepts that were wtf. I feel like he didnt take this seriously lol

Certain had an overall solid verse that only lost me once. Pretty much on point throughout.

Had Certain.

Usually can't read topicals beginning to end without getting bored

Exception found.

Liked both verses

Timeless lost me a few times tho.
Certains was cool and crisp from beginning to end IMO.

Sorry if this is somewhat vague for a topical vote

V/ certain for the more entertaining verse
