Slight (slight) graphical upgrade. Major selling points are 60 FPS and the large new player base for multiplayer. It's kind of redundant for PC users. It's basically DS1+DSFix without some of the glitches DSFix had in trying to lock in the original to 60 FPS. Only reason to own on PC is the player base being populated. For console plebs like me, especially as PS4 owner, it's definitely worth it. Arguably the best game I've ever played with a popping player population.

From Software debuted their new game at E3 and it looks great.

@PancakeBrah have you played demon's? I'm going to assume you've played the sequels.

PancakeBrah 06-11-2018 11:15 AM

Nah I was an XBox guy during the PS3 era and missed out on it. Do want to play it some day, probably just buy a used PS3 or wait until emulation catches up. From what I've seen it started with a lot of the things that made DS so great but in kind of a hub and spoke world like Bloodborne/DS3?

Yeah I've played all the Dark Souls and BB. I think Miyazaki/From are best when working on new IP (cant speak for Demon's but DS1 and BB are by far the best of the four I've played) which makes Sekiro, their new game/IP, such an interesting prospect.

Eŋg 06-11-2018 11:38 AM

i haven't played BB/Ds3 because i'm behind the current gen. actually had a lot of fun with SotFS and its NG+ contrary to popular opinion. first played demon's and it is legit terrifying, a much less polished experience but the mechanics start there and the atmosphere is A+. 2 actually has more callbacks to it, in ways, than 1 which is why i liked the bastard child. i'm hoping we get a demon's souls 2 someday but it's more likely BB gets a sequel.

the nexus - its hub - is basically firelink or majula but much colder and without the interconnections. you just pick an arch-stone and jump to a different world for each with a handful of stages. the format works.

haven't checked shadows die twice yet but will -- edit, yea this looks fucking excellent.

PancakeBrah 06-11-2018 12:16 PM

Yeah I'll definitely have to play it sometime. I agree on DS2. I liked it despite all the hate it gets. Brutal tough to transition to it from DS1 for me. Despawned everything in the wharf. Adept at it now at least. The DLCs for that game are on par, quality wise, with DS1. Build variety was cool. Honestly probably prefer it to 3.

Bloodborne gets my highest recommendation. If you're into atmosphere from Demon's then BB would be right up your alley. Just oppressive and otherworldly atmosphere throughout. Combat system is faster and more finely tuned. Only drawback is farming for healing items. Probably DS1's equal and on the right day I sometimes think better.

Eŋg 06-11-2018 12:35 PM

transitioning from 1 to 2 was my biggest gripe. took me several hours of unlearning then relearning. got to the point i run around powerstancing curved swords and forgo a shield entirely. i'd argue the DLC was (slightly) better, with that final act in the old chaos. the game had more content.

Ds1 post-anor londo suffers a bit from being unfinished, though still a real gem of a game. consensus seems to be BB (considering a ps4 just for this but not urgently) is probably the best soulsborne game, but everyone's fond of the first one they played for obvious reasons.

PancakeBrah 06-11-2018 03:20 PM

Yeah post Anor Londo is noticeably worse, and that's the general consensus. O&S is the peak of the game. They couldn't ramp up the difficulty when you can fight the four bigs in any order. BoC was absolute garbage and Demon Ruins/Lost Izalith is in the running for worst area in the series. I hate TotG as well but at least it was trying something unique. I enjoy the archives and New Londo. DS1 has such a high baseline level of quality that they're not bad areas to play, just disappointing on a curved scale.

Word to the Old Chaos fight. Epic is an overused word but works for that fight.

Dark souls 2 was a huge fail. Best pvp but the story/worlds/enemies are fucking awful

Destroyer 06-11-2018 07:50 PM

Never finished ds1 on ps3
Finished 2,3 and BB though
May need to pick this up for ps4
