You and your computer

Were your first experiences with the internet and forums on a desktop computer? How many years ago was it that you went from using a desktop or laptop to browse the web to using your phone primarily? Do you have a screen time clock function, if so, what was your screen time last week?

Phone wasn't until like 2011/2012. Forums was 05/06 on desktop

Started out with a desktop at 14/15 (2004?). I'd say I was about 20 (2009) until I borrowed a smartphone from a friend that hounded me about trying it out. It's ok for what it is but takes attention away from social gatherings, still not of a fan mostly due to how they're being used.

i first played on it in the 90's then i had a desktop soon after..
i got a laptop in the 00's
and a smart phone soon after

uh-oh 02-19-2020 06:38 AM

young impoverished uh-oh got a family desktop computer when i was like 14. cheapo compaq from wal mart.

i think me not having internet access but being INTRIGUED by it throughout my YOUTH, to then having it is partly to blame for me being such a nerd and going so hard internettin'. if i had access earlier i think it wouldn't have been such a big deal.

i still browse primarily on a desktop workstation/gaming type PC tho. i got a shitty laptop for my kitchen table for youtube/etc while eating. phone for on the MOVE.

i AM THE INTERNET

but word i found rapleagues in like 05 googling hip hop honeys like melyssa ford and vida guerra. stuck around to bite punchlines and climb the rankings to defeat ill nik-a with punches stolen from some god forsaken bb type forum

get at me

Ouch 02-19-2020 08:17 AM

Vida Guerra hell to the yeah

I got a computer when I was like.. 13 I’d guess I remember it was a gateway 2000... pretty sure that company got bought out, or went out of business a looong time ago.. I had 28.8k dial up... AOL.. I grew up poor therefore grew up around poor people, and I was literally the only person I knew that had a computer. To this day some of my family still asks me tech questions like I’m some genius because of it haha. The average 12 year old is probably more knowledgeable than me at this point.

First forum b-boys.com in 2000 or 2001 I’d guess.. laptop I’m not sure about..

I didn’t have a smart phone until... probably 5 years ago.. I have a desktop it’s some horrible dell thing, and legit like 3 days ago booted up with a black screen that says no hard drive detected, I haven’t even tried to fuck with it

But I post on here with an iPad

And yeah.. b-boys and aol instant messenger ftw

i believe i built my own first computer when i was 9 (1992 - a 386sx w/ TURBO!). however, my first interaction/regular use was with the commodore 64s in 1st grade (1989). i have always used a desktop primarily - the screen real estate is crucial. my phone became my "majority" web browser around 2014 or so, though that's a hard statistic since i work from my desktop 5 days a week. i do not leverage a screen time utility as i choose to remain blissfully ignorant as to how much time i waste on it.

I'm in the Diode category. My first experience on PC was a 386 as well. STRAIGHT DOS BABY! My family was weird tho, we would wait for my dad to build himself a new PC then his old ones would get handed down. So when i got the 386 it was already 4-5 years old. Same with the 486 with Win 1.7 on it. Then came the Pentium 2 300Mhz with s Voodoo 1 and by THAT time i think i was old enough to start browsing.

By early 2000 i was on BBoys.com writing hot fire. Lol

I got my first smart phone in 2010 i think. Galaxy S2. It's been a wrap ever since.

I thought you meant desktop as in like when were you ever on a forum

lol I been on desktops since 1999.

but yeah phone was probably in 2010, tbh.

uh-oh 02-19-2020 06:59 PM

well yea if we just mean a computer in general

i dont remember what kind of computer it was cuz i was young as shit, maybe like 9, so like 98ish, but it was ridiculously old. like one of them yellow shits, but i think the screen was in color, like it didn't have the black and green screen. all i remember is some sidescrolling tomb type game with some dude, and maybe like snake type creatures? and i'd try and draw pokemon in some archaic version of ms paint or some shit

slecht 02-19-2020 07:43 PM

I remember playing mad games with it. Learned how to type and shit with a bunch of college games my pops had.
