Inno 10-03-2017 04:09 PM

Dooope. Are audio books considered reading?

I’ve always wondered that.

Ghost1 10-03-2017 04:40 PM

Yes bro! There isn't any difference from the words being transferred into your mind audibly as opposed to visually

uh-oh 10-03-2017 08:34 PM

i don't retain audio books like i do shit i actually read

i'll look for a torrent of this tho

oats 10-03-2017 09:23 PM

There a world of a difference between reading and listening to an audio book but if people are accessing the written word then I'm happy.

But yeah hit me with that ePub por favor

Ghost1 10-03-2017 09:45 PM

Whats the difference aside from preference?

Legit asking

An word I gotchu in the am for the epub

On my phone, but the short of it is that reading demands a lot more out of your brain (this is true even between reading on paper vs. screen). There's more going on neurologically. The act of reading itself, regardless of what you're reading, also fosters mental habits like critical thinking and reflection. Requires active interaction with information as opposed to passive reception of it. But like I said, audio books are much better than nothing at all, and are really convenient for a lot of people. Nothing wrong with them at all.

Ghost1 10-03-2017 10:33 PM

I can dig it

At one point I had attempted...or wanted to research it....i must not have LOL

oats 10-03-2017 11:09 PM

Nicholas Carr wrote two books (The Shallows and The Glass Cage, I think they're called) which are really thorough looks at the subject. I studied the neurology of reading a lot for grad school tho so you can just skip that and take my word for it.

So what your saying is if I listen AND read along I get twice the brain power?

But srsly my fucking phone won’t let me download it anyway so I’ll wait for the other link.

@Amen find that link bruh the other one worked great

oats 10-03-2017 11:48 PM

well yeah, if you listen while you read that is a better way to receive information. even better, if you know sign language, have someone stick their fists in your butthole and sign it to you while you listen and read.
