Thoughts on Aesop Rock
Been playing Impossible Kid, Float and Daylight allot recently.
I like his sound and, since I’m a huge fan of fast rap ( and so dislike almost all rap where people slur allot) I respect how he can say words perfectly, like TechN9ne’d be jealous. I think he’s too cryptic sometimes, but definitely a lyrical master. |

Top ten lyricist ever.

I can’t give it to either cus Lupe’s more straight forward, so he gets bonus points, but Aesop R has better story telling and is more complex, but sometimes too vague like Coffee or whatever single it was. |
I don’t mind when he’s vague. I haven’t listened to Lupe in a long time.
|
The only Lupe I’ve seen that’s worth GOAT talk is Mural
The only problem I have with vagueness is easier way to add layers. |
Aesop a lyricist? Lol half the shit he says makes zero sense and just sounds good.
Kirby is his best song |

Couple Playboy mudflaps and hell on his heels
Beautifully echoed in the pace at which he shoveled his meals Like not a farmer among us had a harvest survive the winter So dinner split a lima bean and triplets, pick a winner Took a couple summers pukin' pills behind the dumpster As the largest pez dispenser on record recouped his numbers One shoe in the soupy gutter One shoe in the velvet heaven Where the mermaids Harlem Shake up out a lake of melted weapons Random imagery, but not all of its nonsense. @dull boy NSP best album still. Not even top 5 sections on the album |
Most copious, Rain soak the opiates
Notice how the phobias appropriately procreate Woke up with a ghost farm focused on his groceries When they aren't telling stories, they are multiplying grossly on the lawn Let 'em loiter, never let 'em spawn The apparitions have been drinking this water for too long So when they gather by the birdbath in the morning he will tell 'em "I mean no disrespect, but you have all outstayed your welcome." Interesting, in a sense... Interrupt commiserating phantoms on your picket fence How quickly they will lift their heads And breathe an ultimatum like, "The dead don't argue." Said, "You're living by the bayonet, but how alive are you? |

That may be so but his music never sounded very good to me
There's a couple here and there but collectively idk |
i enjoy his introspective shit more than the abstract stuff, but i love it more when he seamlessly blends the two, which very rarely happens.

Aes has benefited from mainstream colliding with independent Hip Hop from a personal style perspective, I’d say. It’s surprising that you, given the way you write, don’t appreciate the same things about him that I do. Not saying YOU HAVE TO I’m just surprised. There’s something so poetic and just beyond the surface with him. It appeals to my elitist lean to listen to a rapper recite verses that have a feel of mystery to them. Not to the point that it’s abstract, but that he describes things in unconventional ways just for the sake of having it sound dope... but still tell a story or thought coherently. |
His best song is def DayLight and NightLight combined.

I've actually enjoyed reading his verses more than listening to them. For what that's worth. What's a recent song of his you really enjoy? |
